I'm looking to build a camp/utility gun most likely an 870 as that's what I'm familiar with. Being new to modding shotguns I have a couple of questions...

I have a line on what I believe is an 870 Express combo, and can probably get a good deal on it. Seems like a good place to start especially since its hardly if at all used, but then it comes to mods...

Gotta have an 18.5" barrel (for compromise of useful range and mobility)

Want to have a telescopic stock. Is the knoxx specops the best way to go and are they readily available in Canada (Calgary particularly)?

Is it possible, or how hard would it be to mount ghost rings sights on a bead sighted Remington barrel?

Appreciate any help (opinions) that can be offered.

If you want a folding stock go with the knoxx copstock. I LOVE mine. Has a 2 peice pistol grip that uses a spring to absorb the recoil. My experiance with Knoxx is that they make an awsome product. As for the ghost ring, never done it but if it's just a standard bead that can be removed it shouldnt be a big deal. Just a matter of drilling and tapping the proper holes in the barrel/revicever. The hardest part is making sure the holes are located and lined up correctly. Id reccomend a gunsmith for that just for the fact they probably have a good jig to make sure everything is true. Or maybe you could borrow a jig from a gunsmith friend..thats what I do lol

I have the knoxx specops on my 870 and I think its the best thing since sliced bread! It really soaks the recoil. I went with a Mesa Tactical 6 saddle and mounted a red dot scope. Simon (badboybeeson)at sjhardware.com has them. If you do go with saddle of that size you will need to replace the factory forend as well.

+1 on TSE for the Knoxx stocks. They might not have the exact model you want in stock today, but they seem to get new stock in quite regularly.

If you want something shorter than an 18.5", they're also a good place to visit. They always seem to have at least one norc 14" kicking around.

Or you could spend some coin and buy a Fabarm :runaway:
