Evening all,

I want to put a scope on my Norinco M305, which will be mounted forward of the receiver. My only experience with optics was in the service, and those were not mounted in that "scout rifle" setup. I will be using it for competition out to 300 yrds and maybe some hunting (to about that same distance, more or less). I don't want to spend more than $300 on it if possible; used or new makes no difference to me. Variable or fixed power....I have no preference. I just want to put accurate rounds on target downrange and to be able to do my part in humanely dispatching an animal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm not sure whether a scout setup would be suitable for competition so I don't know if there is any particular scope that should be reccommended for that.

Weaver makes one, a fixed 4x, which retails at Cabela's for $250, so that's in your budget (K4 Scout). Leupold and Burris do scout scopes which are fixed 2.75x. Not sure about the Burris I think the Leupold will cost more than the Weaver.
