I'm looking at getting into hunting and I do reload. I found a good deal on 180gr tsx flat base bullets, what do you guys think of them?? What size of game would they be good for? What kind of range are these bullets limited to
Oh I will be loading it for 30-06

I took my moose last fall with a flat-based 225gr TSX .338, at 275yds, and it had no problems making the flight...:)

I'd try them in any cal and see how the shoot...

Hi,

I have no direct personal experience with the TSX, but by all reports they perform really well, and as I understand it your use is exactly what that bullet is intended for.

180 Barnes is good for anything in North America IMHO. Range would be what you feel comfortable shooting at. Most game is taken under the 200 yard mark. Farther shots are fine also with that bullet/caliber combo too. It all boils down to what range you are comfortable shooting out too.

Is the tsx the same as the ###

###, Triple Shock X-bullet and TSX are all the same.

They're a good bullet but I think they're plenty tough. I prefer Partitions though I must admit to only having shot the TSX in my 300 Winchester, never tried them in my '06. The '06 works so well with NPTs I'm not inclined to try anything different. Doesn't mean you wouldn't love them though.

I used them in .257 Weatherby, 7mm STW, .375 H&H and .416 Rigby. Maybe 50 animals. Accuracy is very good. I've moved away from them back to softer bullets, that show more immediate effect. They do have certain advantages, like out-penetrating about everything else. That makes them great for shooting little animals with big guns, big animals with little guns and the biggest animals with the biggest guns. For deer sized animals a softer bullet drops them faster. They make a great meat bullet.

I love the TSX in my .257 Weatherby, it never comes apart and at those impact speeds it expands quite quickly. I can't imagine a .30-06 and 180's not being able to take down anything in North America. Maybe at longer ranges the bullets might not open up as quickly due to lower impact velocities but they'll still penetrate like mad.

I was told they were barnes 180gr ### flat base 30 Cal .308

are you saying they only make a boat tail for the 30 cal??

yes, that is what I am saying. If you think I am wrong, call Barnes or check their website, it's on the intraweb

Ya I checked you are right. I wasn't saying you were wrong. I have not seen them I was told they were flat base I'll have to get a hold of the guy. He must have made a mistake.

The box says 180gr flat base. I checked the cat# 30835 on the box and acording to the barnes website they are .308 110gr flate base.

WTF

I don't have them, my wife is out of town and she picked them up for me. She is going to go back to the store and see if she can switch them. but one of the boxes did get opened so I will probably get stuck with at leased one box?
