newb question what do think of the barnes tsx flat base

The base is technically flat, on the very bottom. They are a boat tail profile though. Thats a good thing tho, it makes them more stable and accurate. They are meant for deep penetration and to be used for crushing through heavy hide and muscle, or bone. As mentioned, their superb for shooting big game with smaller calibers. Its all thanks to the solid copper construction, so they retain virtually 100% of their weight. Copper is lighter than lead, however, and as such the bullets are longer than the same weight in lead, which can cause magazine problems in some rifles. They also create much more copper fouling, which is a lot harder to get out of your barrel. If you clean your gun often though, it shouldn't be a problem
