So I got my first rifle with a scope and I'm trying to do the initial sighting in of the scope and all and am somewhat struggling. I don't know if I've been doing to many drugs or if my minds playing tricks on me but...
When I initially bring my scope to my eye the rectical initially is very clear and crisp but then after about a second or so it goes really blurry! I've only been playing around with it inside, but its driving me crazy. The scope is 3-9VX-I for what it's worth...

That's just your eye trying to focus on different things. Everything should go clear when you focus on your target with both eyes open. If that doesn't work, try adjusting the rear eyepiece -- twist eyepiece counterclockwise, then twist backing 'nut' clockwise a couple turns, then tighten the eyepiece in. That should clear things up, if not adjust it out a bit.

I've been adjusting the rear eyepiece around trying to find the optimal setting. It doesn't seem to change anything drastically...

I have not found this written anywhere, but I find that I cannot adjust for my focus on the reticle inside. I need to do it while focusing on a target at a realistic distance, say 20m or more away. Then, no problem.

Well - If your farsighted - ie need glasses to read, then you have to adjust the rear bell toward the back of the rifle, usually by turning it counterclockwise. Near sighted, vice versa... Do the focus adjustment while looking at some object at a long distance - adjust until both reticle and target are clear, without straining your eyes.
Make sure you're turning the whole bell and not just the locking ring.
