Is there much of a difference shooting 115gr opposed to 124gr 9mm FMJ? I just bought my first 9mm pistol and I'm looking into purchasing some ammo but not sure what the benefits of different grain bullets are... I've never really looked into it as I usually just buy whatever is on sale at the time, but now I'm curious as I want to get more seriously into shooting. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Happy shooting

Shooting commercial loads I doubt that you'll see a difference. The powder load from manufacturer to manufacturer will make more of a difference than the bullet weight.

It makes more of a difference in competition ammo when one is loading, for example to achieve an IPSC power factor. If one compares various rounds at the same power factor, the ones with the heavier bullets seem to recoil less abruptly.

In all practicality, there is no real difference between the 2. I often dump my mixed 115 and 124grs into the same can and load them into the same mag. I don’t precision shoot these loads. They’re for IDPA and 2/3 Gun competition only. Point of impact is pretty close at 10-15yds.

There is more of a difference between 115/124 and 147gr. The heavier 147s seem to shoot softer than the lighter weights.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't shot 147s yet, going to order up.

After shooting 1000's 124s. Shooting 115 grn factory loads, are like shooting 40 S&W. Loud and snappy.
