Newbi Questions Re IPSC and Black Badge

A good source for lefty holsters is www.solelycanadian.com. He can produce concealment or competition style holsters for just about anything, and at a good price too.

I've got 3 of his so far, and I've used concealment style for IPSC. It's not quite as fast, but hey, neither am I. I can use the same one for IDPA or multigun as well, so it saves me a few bucks that way too.

Hello; I just finished a IPSC Black Badge course. Some random feeling and thoughts. Did I enjoy it, Yes. Did I learn, Yes.The other guys, interesting and varied, learned from them too. Expence holsters, No, most used 50 dollar plastic type. Too many expence bullets, not if you can hit your target in the required times, I bought the best plated bullets I could get and loaded carefully, so no jams ,no malfundtions, do-overs due to gun issues. The gun was 45 acp well sighted in to hit point of aim. Dry fired, practice mag change, practice draw with the holster to be used. Put in the work before hand.
Why did I do it? since of accomplishemt, personal pride, It is the GOLD standard to get accepted into other gun GAMES. Looking for new challage in shooting, this was not my first trip to the range with a timer in my ear. Will I stay a menber for years to come, well only God knows as at almost 65 years old I feel good about just waking up and being blessed to have a chance to decide how to live that day.

Good on ya Viscious!!! I shot IPSC for about 18 yrs - then got conned into doing some work for 10 years that took all my time so had to give IPSC up but all my close friends today were and many still are IPSC shooters - all really great and interesting people that I met through the shooting. Now at 69 ... too old and tired to shoot competively and IDPA "doesn't cut it" but still drag out the 1911 .45 and even the Para .38 Super "racegun" whenever I get "bored"!!! I'm impressed with your initiative! ENJOY!!!!

I have been participating in IPSC for several years.

At the club level - the only level most people compete in - you don't have to have a BB course but it is highly recommended. While the BB course has a core, the practices for teaching vary from one instructor to another. In some instances people must bring up to 1,000 rounds.

Yes, the BB is required for IPSC sanctioned matches - whatever that is..

People invariably makeup a few add-ons to the rules resulting in inconsistencies. Combine that with confusion over the rules - movement rule, in particular - and you can end up with a mess. It got to the point where I backed away from ROing because I no longer knew what to do.. Too many people resented being DQed, even after the RM confirms the same.

Canada is the only country that has a requirement for a BB course. Every one else seems to get by without any one getting injured. It may be an efficient way to get people used to the rules but I don't see it as essential.

In my neck of the woods, about one in ten people who finish the Black Badge compete in more than a few matches. It is only offered once a year resulting in a major bottle neck for entry to IPSC.

IPSC can be fun. But there are other options with a lot less "red tape."

Yes, you will get a lot of snide comments from people about your gun and rig. Very unsportsmanlike.

This is the complete opposite of my experience and many others....

If you aren't just trolling because you are disgruntled over something then I believe the ipsc club where you are from needs to shape up because this is definitely not the norm.

Hello; I was informed it takes 160 rounds to do the BB course perfect once through. I did it with 214 rounds. Most other took 325 to 500 rounds. I have over 20 years drawing from a cowboy holster, plus many years shooting silhouetts out to 200 yards. The local club I belong to allowed me to shoot on club night non sanctioned event, but the rules of the game were followed. There help and encourgement was great. Know your gun, and practice.
Those with high round counts had new guns, or lacked shooting time at the range.

Dunno why people complain about the round counts for BB. If you love shooting you love shooting. Whether it's practice or for match or for fun. Shooting is an expensive sport. Once you pass BB expect to shoot thousands every quarter.
