Newbie 10/30 AR Pistol mag question

you cant modify a mag designed for a manual rifle to work in a semi if it holds more then 5 rds unless you pin it as well, like cutting the little square hole in the AIA mags so the fit properly in a M14, or using a 40 cal pistol mag in a 9mm is ok unless you have to adjust the feed lips to make it work. Un-modified mags that just happen to work are fine, but as soon as you modify them your screwed.
If that's the case, why was the pump action AR's mag still restricted to 5 rounds? I recall a rumour of someone intentionally making an AR as pump action (or straight pull) so that the magazine can stamp the manual operated's model to have 30 rounders.

And also, if that's what you mean, why no one hasn't imported H&K R8's Magazine? You can get em from Austrialia where their SL8 is a straight pull (H&K R8 and SL8 use the same magazine). R8 comes with standard 10 rounders where there's marked to be used on R8

Man I'd say we just push for a 30 rounds capacity, no exceptions to the rule makes life so much easier....Most modern Sporting rifle comes standard in 30 anyways. I'm sure service rifle competition won't mind.

I'd love to see this but it's like Questar says: at what point are the law makers going to see a high capacity AR mag and start pushing back? We have 10 round mags and seem to have gotten away with it (Thanks Questar!) but a pump action AR with 30 round mags is certainly going to raise more than a few eye brows if you catch my drift. And as soon as they are made you know darn well that someone will make a 100 round drum mag for those pump action AR type rifles, then what?

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be trying for unlimited magazine capacity but we do need to be aware of what could happen as we try to push the boundaries.

A pump action AR = an AR variant; if it takes AR magazines, then magazines made for the pump are AR mags.
Remington advertised that their 7615 took AR mags, therefore 7615 mags are AR mags.

Then how do you explain the 10 round AR pistol mags? As long as the mags are manufactured specifically for the pump action AR and marked as such then ??? I know there's a lot more to it than that but you get the idea.

10 round pistol magazines are legal. LAR 10 round pistol magazines were specifically approved. The RCMP rejected a 10/30 version.
Any magazine for a Remington 7615 or a Dlask pump is an AR rifle magazine - although one could be used with the LAR 10 rounder.

Canada Ammo recently had 10-30 magazines... not anymore. I wonder why. We should not push too much. Let's stick to the 10 rounders. What we need for the tacticool look is an extended floorplate that would make it looks like a 30 rounds magazine.

First off: I SEE JAKE!

Secondly: You cannot connection two 10 round LAR mags end to end with one of those connectors, can you? Actually I guess you can? Errr someone tell me.

Yes, you can connect 2 pistol magazines end to end. The trick thing (in my understanding) about the pistol mag is that it must be a unique mag to the pistol. That is, it must have some dimension that it does not share with the rifle version of the same mag, pinning a 20 round Colt AR mag and writing "AR Pistol Mag" on it doesn't fly because the length and width are shared with a rifle mag. You have to find someone willing to adopt an odd sized mag for the production pistol version of your favorite blaster.

Then what about the whole CX4 <-> PX4 mag issue? They are the exact same mags except if the mag is stamped CX4 it has to be pinned to 5.

The whole thing is a mag has to be manufactured FOR the firearm. The 10 round LAR mags are manufactured FOR the LAR and they just happen to fit "normal" AR's. Yet an LAR can take all AR magazines, except in Canada since we have the stupid 5 round rifle/10 round pistol deal it creates a loophole.

If someone built a bolt action rifle and designed mags that hold 20 rounds that just happened to fit into an AR then....
