In old type Winchester AA hulls - nominally "2 3/4" - not the HS type - can WAA20F1 wads be used interchangeably with WAA20 wads? I am finding recipes calling for primers, powder, etc. that I have, using WAA20 wads, but also seeing separate pressure tested listings for WAA20 and then WAA20F1 wads - the later call for primers and powders that I do not have.

If there is a difference between WAA20F1 and WAA20 wads, what is that difference? Can the WAA20F1 be trimmed or whatever to work?? I am looking at doing a total of 500 rounds - I am not a high volume shooter, so manual modification of the WAA20F1 wads is conceivable, if that will work.

My objective would be to load 7/8 or 1 ounce of #6 and/or #8 lead shot.

F1 indicates it was intended for field loads, 1 ounce. The WAA20 was for default target loads, typically 7/8oz.

Physically, the F1 will have a longer cup, and therefore shorter legs. The collapse rate will be different, and that may affect the pressure curve.

Get the right Waa wads and don't screw up the F1's since they are hard to get and not made any more
Claybuster AA equivalents are everywhere and cheap
Cheers

Yep, since I posted, I did just that - apparently a pile of the Claybuster WAA20 are on the way - seemed easiest solution for now ...

Not sure what powder you're running so other than additional 20ga info this may not be helpful. Rem SP20 can be a PITA to load on single stage MEC so they have replaced that wad with the new REM20SPs .the last S is "stitched" so the wad petals don't bind the loader ...........data is interchangeable with the old Rem wad. WIN 571/HS7or Blue Dot lays a thumping on pheasants in the 20ga.
