Hi - I've got my restricted and am looking at buying my first handgun. I've been to the local range and shot a few. My favourite has been the Baby Eagle (I like the weight and I'm a big man with big hands). I didn't really like the Glocks. So, any advice on what the best shooter for the dollar is? I'm thinking CZ, Beretta 92, Baby Eagle...

Thanks!

I've handle a Glock and didn't really like it either. I am very interested in a Beretta 92 myself.

CZ SP-01 is a nice gun and i think it will fit someone who has big hands quite comfortably, i found it too big in the grip and sold it. What kind of shooting are you planning on doing?
Andre

CZ75b lets you shoot IDPA as well.
The SP01 needs work to lighten it to fit in rules.

Besides, a 75b tutone is dead ###y!

Have you considered the Browning Hi-Power? That would be my choice for an all-metal 9mm/.40 pistol.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

If I did try IPSC or PPC later, what difference will the CZ SP-01 make vs 75/85? This production division list says they are both OK:

Thanks again everyone.

If you get SP-01 tactical, you'll have a decocker, it is very useful in IPSC.
Also, SP-01 flips less because of the extra weight in front so it is easier
to put out follow up shots.

For IDPA, you just change the grips to thin plastic and you are ready to go.

SiG P226! Beretta 92 for 9mm or 96 for .40 are great. Which Glock did you try? I have a Glock 22 and a 23 is on the way, I'm not a big Glock fan. I prefer my Beretta 92 copy and ultimately would love to own a SiG but am getting a Norinco copy in the meantime.

CZ 75B is a very well balanced, very reliable and very accurate gun, eats any ammo unlike some guns. And it can be had for only CND$615.00. I personally got me a SP-01 but will most likely get 75B or 85B as well. Too bad we cannot see $420-500 prices (for brand new) like in the US. Hi Power is very accurate gun but the grip isn't as good as CZ75B, never shot Baby Eagle. Didn't like Sig or Beretta, Glock was OK, M&P is a pretty boy but doesn't feel or shoot to my liking.

If you can at all, don't just hold the guns at a store, shoot the ones you like to get an idea what they are like, narrow your list down to say 3-4 and then do a good research on them on Internet.

For start, go with 9mm, ammo is cheaper and it can take you to IPSC too.

I do have limited experience with hand guns, I also have not shot a CZ or baby eagle

I have had my Beretta 92FS for a few months now and I love it. It is just such a classic design, and is built reliable. The trigger is a little different then other hand guns I've shot - heavy trigger pull with a lot of travel. Just a needs a little getting used to. After couple boxes of ammo I could control the trigger fairly well.

I have big hands and the 92 fits great! Oh and the 92FS has a decocking lever too.

Hope this helped.
