I hate to post this as I'm sure it's been covered before, but I don't have the patience to read hours of Internet pages that mostly relate to scope mounts and the M14 only to learn that the M305 receiver may not have the same specs.

To all you M305 toting Canadians ... What is the best scope mount that allows the use of iron sights on the M305? I am planning on getting QD rings (ex the Burris PEPR) so that I can quickly scope and unscope my M305.

If you recommend a really good one and know where to get it that would be awesome too!

Thanks!

And in case you are wondering why I want a scope ... I've decided that doing load development will be far more straightforward if I use glass.

I have an arms #18 with arms#22 rings, works well for me.

Also, the burris pepr is more suited the an ar type of platform since it sit very high.

I was using the PEPR as an example ... I already have one so I was sort of hoping that it would work across a few different rifles that I have.

Is the ARMS-18 difficult to install? I was thinking of buying one but wanted to be sure first. The M305 that I got off the EE has a cheapo steel scope mount that says ARMS on it but it doesn't mount in line with the barrel. It's frustrating.

Same setup Simon recommended... I have Arms 22 low rings with arms 18 mount.
I removed the c clip on the large side mounting bolt before installing the mount as per 45ACP,s instructions and it went on fine.
I disassembled the bolt and cut the extractor and ejector springs a few coils shorter as I was getting a few ejected rounds jamming in the mount .

Pretty easy to intall, I checked the alignement with the barrel using a steel rod.

Just have to clean the oil or grease off the treads and locktite the thing.

Also, do you have a cheap copy or the real thing ?

just curious but why do you want to retain the use of Irons? Of the many of people who scope an M14/M1A very few ever go back or even touch their irons?

Myself included, I use the CASM mount for my build (which does have a rudimentary rear sight machined in it) and I've never had the need for my irons, plus with a scope mount on top of the sight the visibility is usually garbage anyways.

but if your truly dead set on that then go right ahead, just my 2 cents

good luck with the build!

I enjoy the irons to be honest. I have several bolt actions with good glass for when I want precision, but I decided to buy a full length M305 to replace the shorty I sold as didn't realize how much I enjoyed the challenge of irons.

Not to mention, I find it much easier to shoot off-hand using irons. They are less accurate but they are accurate enough to hunt with or to hit a gong.
