Newbie Help - Benelli MR1 or RA XCR?

I have the RA XCR. I very much like it. It shoots very well, I like how it fits me, I like the stock, I like the design. Its easy to clean, its accurate, it breaks down quickly. Its a very good rifle. Here's me enjoying it:

What Calibre is that xcr?

It's in .223 Remington.

The rifle looks somewhat different now. I have a folding stock adaptor, an eotech site and a 4x magnifier on it. Shoots great.

Its a one point sling I bought from Fabsports, but he doesn't seem to have it listed anymore. I don't recall the manufacturer.

Nice pictures Paul.

The chicken wing has to go though. :p

I have the XCR in 7.62x 39 also, its great lots of fun friends freak when I go hunting with it and want to try it .

I would go with the xcr, I have the MR1 where I work and it is $1500. tax included right now, its cool and has a top rail for optics but certainly is no black rifle.

I've owned an XCR and only sold it in order to buy my Tavor. I miss my XCR but love my Tavor a little bit more. I would highly recommend the XCR. The only quirk that I ever had was that you need to put some blue loc tite on a few of the screws. My vote would be for the XCR

Carykoechiln, You welcome. I know the XCR in 7.62 is not cheap but you get what you pay for . also parts have never fallen off mine, just make sure you have good ear protection when shooting .

handled a mr1 last week and didnt think much of it. had an XCR that i liked but I didnt feel it was a $2400 rifle. I do miss it but I enjoy my ar much more.

I guess the design of each says a lot about what people will think of each....the XCR was designed to be a "black-style, operator-ready 5.56mm", while the MR-1 was designed to be an "all jurisdictions' regulation-compliant homeowner-friendly .223" (and yes, I use those calibre-connotations willfully ! )

The MR1 has a niche in the price category. If you're only using the provided sights then you'll probably be very happy. It's when you try and add optics that things go downhill. Plus the ergonomics are flawed.

Not too much to add to that :yingyang: : the mag release is definitely "designed for 30-round magazines" :p (i.e. it's hardly what you'd call mag-change friendly), and - as others here have mentioned - there's more of a "float" than a weld to be used when anything like a scope is deployed....:D

However, it's trigger breaks very nice compared to stock AR mechanisms, the rifle shoulders very naturally when using the iron sights, and accuracy is pretty pleasing....plus recoil wussies need not fear "kickback" thanks in large part to the MR-1's "ARGO mechanism + buttpad" combination...

Oh, and one more thing: even a take-down/field-strip averse fellow like myself can intuitively figure out how to put that MR-1 back together again....which is kinda ironic, given that the MR-1 is supposed to be able to withstand significantly long periods of time between cleanings....

If I had to introduce one of the never-clean, recoil-sensitive, non-scoped rifle crowd to a 5.56mm rifle, it'd definitely be the MR-1. For me, I'm keeping that scoped AR....;)

I don't think this one was mentioned I seen one at my local shop looks ok if you like the cz style. Its the new sport model in 5.56 nato and 7.62 X39. They run just under $1000

If you want something more for just fun I was looking at a beretta CX4 storm 9mm with the long barrel mod this makes it non-restricted. They were asking $1600 for it I decided to buy the benelli MR1 instead. I still want one though, will have to wait till next year.

I am very happy with my XCR 7.62, shoots great. pic is from yesterday, bout -11 at the range, 100meters with win wb, leupy 1.5x5 mk4, 5 shots in one big hole.

admittedly the best group to date with most averaging about 1" group, will shoot cheap surp 10 shot groups of 2-3". While many say the value isn't there for the XCR: any other monolithic upper, 2 stage trigger, etc ar15 will cost about the same. also factor in the RA is a small manufacturer, small guys have higher manufacturing costs due to volume. is it a battle tried platform? nope! that being said, when someone comes out with a 22 conversion for the XCR all my ar's will be gone and i would not hesitate for one minute whether i would depend on the XCR.
don't forget the ar platforms have there own weaknesses, i don't need to stake my carrier bolts!!! who owns an ar and doesn't have a spare parts kit?one last point, no AR15 platform performs reliably with 7.62x39, while the XCR does this amazingly well.
i wonder how many of the "haters" have actually fired an XCR?
