Newbie Here.. Opinions please

I've looked around many previous posts on this subject and they've been very helpful but I'm still not 100% sure.

I will be buying a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless 270 Win along with one of these possible scopes. This will be my first rifle and first time going deer hunting with 4 experienced hunters this year. You might say it's too high end but I enjoy hunting and I like to buy things that last. Thanks

I'd go with the Zeiss if I could afford it. I have a VXII 3X9X40 and I find it to be a nice, clear scope for the money.

Leupold VX3 with the BC reticle is a great scope! I have 3 of them with the Leupold Flip-up Covers and the Alumina lenses. If the price is a bit to high, the VX2 3x9 or 4x12 with the LR duplex reticle will be good. The Burris Fullfield II scope with the ballistic-plex retilce is agood value for the money also.

Depends what is important to you,
4200 or VX-111 flip a coin, both are great scopes.
same with 3200 or VX-11.
How about a Nikon?

Edit: A buddy of mine has a 4200 with the firefly reticle.It is thick, but does work as advertized

+2 for the VX-III with Boone & Crockett reticle. A little pricey though, but excellant optics.

I have and use Zeiss, Leupold and B&L (now Bushnell) ... go with the Bushnell if you don't need the ego boost and have a modicum of self-worth.

For general hunting I might lean toward their short 1.5-6 rather than the 2.5-10 (I still own a 2.5-10 B&L Balvar and it is great) but there isn't any huge weight advantage one way or the other....they are very good scopes and great value for money.

You can save weight by going with Leupold but I don't think you will see any optical advantage...none of them are intended to be thrown off a bridge onto a railway track so treat it reasonably and it will likely outlast your interest in shooting...the resale isn't what a Leupold or Zeiss will get you.

just bought a new Leupold VX-III 2.5-8 and the optics were the best I could see in the show and the new issue as of 2004 takes optical filters. solid warranty and indexed lenses. grabs lotsa light. looked at the 4200 too but I think this one sees better. they are all good choices though

A little more info on hunting conditions would be helpfull!

Quite a few suggest a 3x9 for deer hunting but personally I can't imagine hunting with anything that powerful in the conditions I hunt in!
I personally just took of a quality 3x9 in favor of a 1.5x4 elite for moose hunting this year.

Thanks for all the replies and votes. I was quite interested in the B&C reticle but I don't know if it's worth the extra hundy. As for the conditions, I really don't know, I've never been, but I'm pretty sure everyone in the group I will be hunting with uses this size. I'm going to ask around this weekend. It'll be northern Ontario area. Thanks again

Ooops..

I didn't realized I closed the poll.
I'm leaning towards the elite 4200 cause there is a service link on the Bushnell site to send products to Richmond Hill, ON.
Any more opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

IOR makes good ones.

If it is from your options, I'd get the Zeiss. You'll sell it whenever you want, A + warranty and the picture is just...... unmatchable by any other listed in teh poll.

4200 is heavier - AFAIR - and it will drop in value a lot more than the Bushnell.
If you ask Bigredd, he'll tell you to get the Leupy.
