I’m a newbie and looking for a .22 pistol for target shooting. Would a used Beretta Neos 22 be a good selection?

Does anyone know if this gun has adjustable sights?

Thanks!

nice gun, but get a Ruger Mark series and you will never regret it. they say they're a pain to disaassemble but it is actually really easy. can be disassembled and reassembled in less than 30 seconds. accurate and lots of things are possible to do to it. not as fussy with ammo either. great gun.

I have a Smith & Wesson 422 for $280 very good little guns. See sig line..

If you buy a Ruger MKI, I have Pachmayr grips available for cheap.

I have owned a Ruger and the Smith I am now selling, I have also handled a few others, I liked the smith the best but the Rugers have a very loyal following. I also like the Norinco "woodsman" just because it is likely the smalles you will ever find in restricted only.

Is small good for target shooting? I assumed something longer would be more accurate for target shooting.

I am not going to suggest which gun. However when you get one I would suggest getting several different brands of 22 ammo and trying them all. Some guns prefer different ammo. It can make a big difference in accuracy & functioning.
Good luck .

If your thinking of getting a Ruger, remember the 22/45 Mk lll's are a one piece plastic grip, and it's a little on the thin side. Now, that said, I have one and it's very accurate, but it's not as comfortable as my Beretta 76S with its contoured target grips :D . I believe the other Mk lll's have replaceable grips, but the grip angle is different.
If you can, give each one you're interested in a test handling. See which one feels good in your hand. Even better would be to test fire them from members here.

I just noticed that there are about 13 different Mark III pistols:
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAPro...n&type=Pistol&bct=Yes&caliber=.22+LR&x=8&y=14

If I go for a Mark series pistol, is there anything in particular I should be looking for? I’m assuming I will need an adjustable sight. This gun will be for target shooting; what sight is best for this application?

Thanks.

I suggest a heavy barrel model of the Ruger & a gun with the adjustable rear sight. A plain front sight is better for target shooting than the light gathering fiber optic type front sights.

However if you have poor vision the "light pipe" type may offer some benefit.

Out of the Ruger's, I would pick this one.

Just for the Simple fact you can slap on a red dot or whatever type of optics you'd want to use on it with ease.

That being said, there's tons of .22 pistols to choose from, you really have to go and hold a few to see what kind of grip best fits. Everyone is different. For example, everyone was telling me to get Ruger's. And i was going to get one. But I went to SIR and held one first and noticed that the angle their grip are make me have to tweak my wrist in a way that isnt very comfortable. I ended buying a revolver. And I found that the S&W .22 line up best fit my shooting style. Their 622 and 2206 models are great. Before buying anything man, really go and hold one first, especally if your gonna buy online and not have the chance to see it first.

my 2 cents. :)

All Ruger MKIII and (the 22/45 MKIII) models with adustable sights come drilled and tapped, complete with base. :D

Seems nobody wants to answer your question on your post! Yes they do come with adjustable sites and are a fine accurate little pistol. The grips and feel are excellent, but the stiker trigger pull is a tad heavy. My wife has the DLX version and it is very accurate little .22.

The trigger on the first generation Neos had very heavy pulls, the newer models are much better. If the trigger on this used gun feels ok to you, then go for it.

Try as many .22 as you can until you find one that feels good to you.

Ah cool, I didn't know that. Never went as far as buying cause they didn't fit me too well. That is cool that they all come with that mount. Might actually be worth taking another look at them in the futur. I really find their stainless models to be very ###y pistols. Thanks for the info :D

Figured I'd post what I ended with.

This is my favorite .22 Pistol I own. Commander lower with a Kimber Conversion Upper. Just recently put a lser on it. Acutally made a thread about it, asking if anybody had experience with using a laser mounted on their .22 pistol but no one responded. lol I guess im the only one.

If been told that technically the max permissible barrel length is 6” to participate in competitions, if this is so I think I should meet this requirement. With this in mind and after looking at Browing, Ruger, and High Standard, this is what I currently have it narrowed down to:

*** BROWNING ***

1.)
Buck Mark Standard URX -- $362 US MSRP
http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=006B&cat_id=051&type_id=407

2.)
Buck Mark Standard Stainless URX -- $399 US MSRP
http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=006B&cat_id=051&type_id=409

3.)
BUCK MARK CONTOUR 5.5 URX -- $421 US MSRP
HTTP://WWW.BROWNING.COM/PRODUCTS/CATALOG/FIREARMS/DETAIL.ASP?VALUE=006B&CAT_ID=051&TYPE_ID=421
• Full-length scope base

*** RUGER ***

4.)
Pistol KMKIII512 (Stainless) -- $483 US MSRP
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=10103&return=Y

5.)
Pistol KMKIII512 (Blued) -- $882 US MSRP
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=10101&return=Y

*** HIGH STANDARD ***

6.)
TX9217 Victor - 22LR - 5.5" - Vent Rib - Adj. Sights -- $795 US MSRP
• Barrel-mounted sighting system
• The trigger is adjustable for both weight of pull and travel

7.)
TX9247 Supermatic Trophy - 22LR - 5.5" - Adj. Sights -- $795 US MSRP
• Adjustable trigger pull
• Barrel weights are available

I really liked the way the Browning fit my hand and have been told that the triggers are a lot better then the Ruger, so right now I am leaning towards item 2 or 3 above.

Any comments/concerns?
