Im new at the shooting sport so far I got a Savage Arms rifle .223 and having lots of fun. Im looking to buy a hand gun most people I've talk to suggested a .22 to start so im thinking maybe a Sig Mosquito any suggestions or comments on that?

If I was going to get a .22 pistol I would suggest A Ruger MK III

For a 9mm either glock or M&P

or go to marstar and get any cheap norinco as a starter

Norinco NP 20 - $229, 9mm

I am sure there will be lots of suggestions on your new gun - buy whatever looks at you. Buy, sell, handle as many as you can - its only a first handgun, doesn't mean your only. Better still - find someone who has been around guns for a while and can loan you whatever he has got. Sometimes you can bump into older fella who is retiring from sport and selling his collection, those are usually good guns at fair price. Join good gun club where passioante men have regular meet ups and thats where you learn a lot and get to try most of thungs on the market, or at least get another opinion

I will assume that you want to become very proficient. If this is the case, for the first pistol, stick with .22 - and choose a model closest to the centrefire model that most interests you. The lessons you learn will serve you well.

If a 1911 interests you, buy a rimfire 1911...
If a CZ centrefire pistol interests you, buy the CZ Cadet...
If Sig centrefire pistols interest you, buy the full-size rimfire Sig...
If...

probably outgrow a .22 pretty quick. 9mm is a good place to start.

I have four .22 handguns (3 autos and a wheel gun)... love and shoot 'em often.
You simply cannot argue with cheap ammo!!
That said, there are a number of very good 9mm's (the biggest I'd go as a learning tool, if only for the cost savings on ammo) that would make a fine choice as a first handgun.
CZ75, Glock 17, S&W M&P9 would be at the top of my list.
You also show yourself as being down London way. You have access to one of the best clubs around... East Elgin Sportmen's Association (EESA). Make an attempt to get down there and meet up with some folks and try out as much as you can. Nothing is better than actually firing a gun to give you a feel for it.
Also, search around this forum and find what others have suggested/bought as their first.
Good luck with your search, and welcome to the obsession!
