Hello all - just got my PAL and Hunters Licence and looking to purchase my first firearm.

Looking to purchase a semi auto shotgun that has interchangeable barrels that I would like to use for waterfowl and deer hunting.

I do know that he mossberg come in combo kits, but my concern is reliability.

So to all the experts out there can you recommend a good reliable 12 ga with interchangeable barrels.

Thanks

Any semi auto is at higher risk to reliability issues. I've beat on several mossberg autos without any malfunctions. Beretta sells rifled barrels for their guns separately but they're not cheap

Try a browning mauxs......it shoulders and points very well and will easily handle a variety of loads. I have one and love it. But you should really go into a store and pick up a few guns that feel good for you. It is important to do that because guns fit different people differently. Also, keep in mind that you get what you pay for, if you opt to go for a cheaper gun you might not get as a reliable gun as you would if you opted for a better quality.

I like the way the maxus looks and have read some great reviews about it, but how easily can I get a rifled barrel for the maxus ?

I just bought a Maxus, but haven't shot it yet. Don't know how easy it is to get the spare barrels, will depend on Browning's Canadian distributor. They are listed on Browning's site. I was told by another Maxus owner, that the new barrels come with a new forearm too. Not sure why.

I see 3 choices here.

1) Just buy the one you like. Everyone I know just shoot their regular shotguns. Some clip on rifle sights on the rib, some just use the rib. Every fill their tags.

2) Buy the one you like, then spend a few hundred bucks for a single shot or a pump of some sort.

3) Spend more money than a 870 slug gun for a browning barrel.

The Mossberg 500 combo kit is apparently a great bang for the buck, Everyone I've talked to says so, and I shot one the other day at the trap range... It shouldered nice, and points well. It's a pump, not a semi, but most people will tell you semi has more that can go wrong in the field, pump is more reliable.

if autos give you more trouble it is most times not while hunting. I can not remember any of my autos miss feeding a heavy hunting load. It is when you try to shoot light target loads the trouble begins.
Then again I shoot higher end guns. if you don't care if your gun shoots light loads, you have many choices. If you would like to shoot some clay with it, the two I like best are the 391 and the versa max , both will eat what ever you feed them

If you buy a good quality semi you shouldnt have any cycling issues.....i have never had a jam with my maxus and have shot plenty of cheap amo with it. More people have jams with pump because the short stroke it, ya it's not the guns fault but still a jam....but if you know how to use it properly it shouldn't jam.

What is your budget? I mossberg 930 combo can be found for under 600. I nice beretta semi can be found for over 1800 without the barrel. I have a budget so I purchased a mossberg 930 and am very happy with it. Cycles
everything.

Ya, first off what is your budget? I too started with a Mossberg 535 combo and don't get me wrong its a great setup but when it comes down to it, well in my case, you can't just have one shotgun I think I have like 6 now :)

Why would you need 6 shotguns? Maybe 2, a pump or semi and overunder. Don't see much need for more unless you are serious skeet/trap shooter and need a competition type gun.
