Okay, here's my dilema. I don't have any experience shooting a polymer frame handgun however I would like to purchase one in the next while. I found that the S&W99 and the Walther P99 were quite comfortable to hold and I am probably leaning towards one of them. My preferance would be 9mm however due to our regs I would have to get the .40S&W which has the allowable barrel length. The cost of the ammo difference doesn't bother me what I am concerned about is whether or not I would enjoy shooting the .40S&W with the lighter polymer frame and heavier recoil. I was told that the recoil difference between the 9mm and .40S&W would not be overly noticeable due to the fact that the recoil energy is driven more into the arm as opposed to snapping the wrist back as a revolver would do. Is this the case? Has anyone not enjoyed shooting a polymer .40S&W because of the recoil difference? Also, would you notice the difference less in a heavier framed gun such as a CZ-75b?

You'll still be able to notice the difference, but this is true, the P99 does have a bore axis much lower than a revolver so there'll be much less muzzle flip.zimmineee said:

If you do have a chance to shoot different handguns before you buy (not always easy!) that's always best since I'm a big proponent of not always going by how a gun feels but how it shoots! Good luck!

There is no question that 40S&W is much 'snappier' than 9MM...
Shoot two versions of the same gun... Walther P99, Glock, XD...side by side
in the two calibres and, hands down, EVERYBODY prefers the 9MM version.
Having said that, using the 40 S&W version in a service pistol situation, the
extra 'snap' of the larger calibre is certainly 'tolerable'.
In a heavier frame...i.e. an all steel Sig 226, the 40 S&W is no problem,
whereas the 9MM is a veritable 'pussycat'.
The reason most police forces have gone for the 40 over the 9MM, is the
perceived 'ballistical advantage' of the larger calibre...not actually demonstrated in documented incidents in which the units were used 'in anger', by the way....

the P99 (9mm) is in the middle, note the extra half cm or so of factory extended barrel...
Well I won't comment on which dealer said this (they advertise on this sight). I noticed in your picture that you have two p99's. Is one 9mm and the other .40 or .45? If so, which do you prefer shooting the most?
I'm way out of touch with the airguns/co2 guns these days. They sure look like the real thing!
