Newbie Question: 22lr scope at 100 yards

Hi, "my older eyes" also require some help spotting hits at 100 yards with the 22's. I found a solution by buying bright colored card stock -pink /orange/ green- about 24 x24 inches- buck a piece at the dollar store. I draw thick felt black circles, one or two inches for rimfire( 22 and 22 wmr) and 3- inches for hi power sighting, and have no problem spotting hits to about 100 yards, even further with my leupold rimfire scope set at 7x.

Thanks, I will give that a try. Wonder if I could run that through my printer, hmm. - dan

I get the posterboard at the $store - .50c for White and draw 2-3" circles for 100 yds or more (my range only goes to 180). Also at $store are 3/4 " colored sticky-dots for 1.25 / 3-400 pk. that are good targets for 50 & 100 yd, stick on printer paper. I also save 'boxboard' and cardboard to attach printed targets using spray adhesive from $store too. It's a challenge to 'punch-out' the dots at 50 with 22LR and good aiming point for 100 yds. My range doesn't allow Steels but I use pull-tab lids off cat food cans, tied to a string and hung on target frames. Good 100yd 'reacting' targets.
PS - I'm 72 and need help even with scopes so I use 6-24x50 FFP-SF.

It depends on what you are trying to do. Hit a target at 100, $200 will cover it. Shoot under 2” for 10 shots reliably, quite a bit more. Shooting small steel and paper out to 300+ on the clock, especially multiple targets, yes $5-700 probably the lower end. Benchrest (repeatable under 1 MOA 10 shots at 100) might do ok with $500, but most spend more to be competitive.

X2 Buy once cry once... my $300 Savage has a $1000+ 5-25x optic on it.

The optic does what I need it to do, and that's see targets out to 300m+, dial repeatedly with accuracy and have a holdover reticle in MIL.. I could have got something cheaper but not much existed in the sub$1K market when I purchased a few years ago. You can also just own 1 very expensive quality scope and switch it between rifles, only takes a few minutes to re-zero.

Others are going to claim they shoot sub-moa bug holes at 300m+ with their 2-7 hunting scope, but you really need about 16X to see .22 holes in paper at 100m, But there is a reason why 50m bench rest shooters shot 36x scopes... aim small shoot small.
