This seems like it should be such an easy answer that I'm sorta embarrassed to be asking this, but does anyone make 11mm dovetail bases or rails that you can attach to a Savage short action receiver?

I bought a used scope recently, which came with a set of 11mm dovetail rings, which would be great, except I'm looking to mount it on a Savage model 12 short action, and it's looking an awful lot like a "can't get there from here" situation as things stand.

I did see a 20mm picatinny to 11mm dovetail adapter on amazon, but it didn't look like it was long for this world - cheezy would be a kind description for it.

Thanks in advance.

I am just guessing that you have bought a scope that came off a rimfire, which normally uses the smaller dovetails. Even if the scope has a 1" diameter tube, you will want to verify that it is a centerfire scope, not a rimfire scope. You will be much better off putting standard Weaver style or picatinny style bases on the Savage centerfire rifle and buy appropriate rings to fit bases and scope.
There is one exception that I know - I believe Weaver made a rail for the Lee Enfield No.1 and No.4 that required the "rimfire" size of dovetail on the ring.

11 mm are typically CZ rimfire dovetails, models 452, 455 etc. DIP rails in the States have what you are looking for, and they ship to Canada.

I think the OP is looking for 11 mm rails / bases to install on his Savage centerfire rifle, not adaptors to allow full size rings to be used on a rimfire dovetail.

Thanks for the responses; I'll look at DIP rails tonight.

re: setup: I'm planning on a centerfire benchrest build based on the Savage Target action.

The scope is a Leupold 36x fixed, with raised crosshairs, which is an interesting feature I'd not seen before - it moves the aiming point "higher" in the image, so that wind flags are more readily seen in the lower part of the image. The seller didn't say anything about it being a rimfire-specific scope, so I'm hoping it's not (all it says on the scope is "Leupold", "36x", the serial number, and the parallax distance markings.) If it turns out to be a rimfire scope, I may put it on one of my 22's, but again, I'd either need to find the right rail for the 22, or get new rings.

Thanks again!

you did not indicate the calibre you are building on... you would be best served by purchasing the correct bases and rings for your action. Unless you are building a large bore target unit.. the leupold scope will likely handle the recoil, but using the correct rings and bases for the rifle is critical. leupold and weaver both make bases for the Savage actions and rings for your scope are available.

To get this correct, you have a rifle with weaver/picatinny style bases. You have a scope with 11mm dovetail rings.

You want to know if you can use the dovetail rings and find a way to mount them to the existing bases. In order to do this, you need weaver to 11mm dovetail adapters. These adapters are available, and as you note there are Chinese made adapters that can be had from Amazon. They are probably, as you say, not long for this world.

There are better adapters available, and the existing 11mm dovetail rings will mount on them, but they add height to the bases. The cost of these better adapters are such that the long and short of it is that you will be better off to find new weaver-style rings to mount your scope. There are weaver-style rings available to fit any budget.

Not quite what I was thinking.

What I'm really hoping to find is that there's a dovetail rail out there somewhere that I can attach to a Savage action - i.e. a rail that instead of being picatinny width (20mm), is 11mm instead.

Ergo, no adapter needed, and I would be able to put the dovetail rail on the action, the dovetail rings on the dovetail rail, and the scope in the dovetail rings, and life's good.

Maybe such a thing just doesn't exist - I assumed there had to be such an animal out there somewhere, but I have made poor assumptions before...

Most folks want a dovetail to weaver rail and as a result there is little demand for a dovetail rail. The closest things may not be not long for this world. Perhaps you would be best served by getting weaver style rings so as to be able to use the bases on your rifle.

These are made to attach to the weaver bases.

This is a round bottom 11mm dovetail rail, but it is not predrilled for any particular model.
