I was wondering where I can buy aftermarket stock, Boyds etc. from? I checked with a small local (Ottawa) firearm/hunting/fishing store. The lady told me she has to ask her distributor.

Can I buy it in US and just bring it over and declare it at the border, pay HST....?

I have ordered over 100 Boyd's stocks over the years, they make a great product for the price... shipping is usually around $55 USD on top of the base price. About 2/3 of my orders came through without customs levies, the others were charged, usually around $40-50 CDN... it is just luck of the draw. My last order was an At-One stock for a Browning T-Bolt... so far I like it alot.

another newbie question about these stocks. when changing out stocks is it something you can do yourself or does it require a gunsmith? forgive my ignorance. also curious if doing this affects accuracy? thanks .

I don't believe we can do it ourselves yet, but I hear changes are going to be made at the end of February.

The stocks are available right here on the EE at times.
I have bought a Pro Varmint for a 10/22, & a Varmint Thumb-hole for a CZ 452.
I have heard that some Boyd's stocks require minor fitting.
Things like sanding, filing, chiseling or very carefully using a Dremel tool.
You could read up on pillar and glass bedding, and free floating of barrels.

The amount of torque placed on action screws can also effect accuracy.

Some folks learn from videos, or books, some learn by doing, and some pay a gentleman with the knowledge and experience. Which you are does not matter, just have some fun.:)

I've ordered a few Boyds stocks. I didn't have any difficulties with any and the inletting was good. Ordering direct from Boyds allows you to get the stock you want. As hoytcannon says, some get by without duties or taxes.
