Newbie question about AR optics.

We must mean different things when we say "magnify". I'm not saying that a X times magnifier will make the dot X x 1MOA larger. Of course it stays at 1MOA. Everything being viewed through a magnifier would be X times bigger, so there is no relative difference. What I meant was that a magnifier will not magnify the entire world through the optic X times, EXCEPT for the dot. Such exclusionary treatment would be a miracle in optical physics.

:confused::confused::confused:

In engrish, it means the dot size in MOA is still the same irregardless of the magnifier.

The dot looks bigger but so is the background image. A 1MOA dot under a 3X magnifier is still 1 MOA - it still occupies 1" at 100m even though the dot appears bigger - both the dot and the background image are magnifid by the same proportion.

It works like putting the reticle on the 2nd focal plane.

KevinB, whats the deal with the tripower? How does it compair to the ACOG?

tripower is thier version of an aimpoint. Has a mini triangle recticle isntead of a dot. Has three power sources. Takes aimpoint type mounts. Going rate is about $850 around here. I have been thinking about buying one for awhile, but cant decide whether its worth the cash over the other one. The triangle is not very big similar to their chevron setups in their acogs, colour is red as well.

The triangle is like 14MOA or some ridiculously big size. It is basicly good for nothing other than 100m.

On the other hand, why do I want a huge triangle in a non-magnified tube - may as well go for a 2MOA aimpoint. I think the whole point of haivng a triangle is to get precision - but what precision do I need out of a non-magnifying tube?? :confused:

And why do need Tri power while the Mono power aimpoint lasts for some god forsaken 8 years???

Perhaps there is a reason no one buys Tripower.....

eh you forgot its got that red tube on it:D

the only reason why I almost bought one, was to just get something that was fairly rare otherwise its overpriced by a few hundred. Doest come with lens flip up caps either.

Im thinking after thier pos reflex site they wanted something to offset the aimpoint that had typical trijicon stuff.

really though a nice 4 moa aimpoint is hard to beat. I dont get the whole eotech thing (maybe on a shotgun).

You might want to look through an Eotech magnifier at an Eotech site. The dot does not magnify - it remains 1MOA.

It's the magic of optics and / or holography.
IT WOULD STILL BE 1 MOA BUT THE DOT WOULD BE 3 TIMES AS BEG IF THE DOT STAYED THE SAME SIZE IT WOULD BE A 1/3 MOA
