Newbie question about SKS stock fit

Hi, i just got my first SKS few days ago.
It's a refurb russian. As far as i can tell, all the numbers match except the stock.

Here is the question: when i squeeze together the handguard and the forestock, there is so much play that the end of the receiver is moving a good 1/8" inch up. Is it "normal"?

Don't know if its on all of them, but I have had a couple like that. The norinco's I had fit better.

Ive also read in a few other places that the TimberSmith stocks fit quite snug. I plan on getting the thumbhole stock for mine. I just think its a really classy looking design.
