Newbie question in regards to Tavor purchase. Tavor Pro's please lend a hand.

I agree with Master-G about the rail sights. They are very much BACK UP sights. Def be wanting an optic ASAP. I think you will find it a lot more fun than the rail irons.
The Giesselle Lightning Bow makes a world of difference with the factory trigger pack. So much so that I'm not concerned with the Super Sabra.
Congrats on your purchase!! You will LOVE it!!

Well since people are posting a few pics of their setup I'll post mine, it is on the tavor picture thread but hey this is a gun forum lol

Thanks guys, all this help has been fantastic. I have a list of optics to try out now.

for 90 bucks, you can't go wrong with the upgraded trigger. I'll send a few downrange with the stock then update it.

From there I'll see if I want to upgrade the trigger pack.

NICE! I have to know what forearm and muzzle brake you have there?

Well. I want the Elcan SpecterDR. Like....Badly.

However the look on my wifes face will motivate me to look at an Trijicon ACOG instead lol

For the ACOG, I'm assuming I want 3.5X?

ORRRRRRRRRRRR Do I just get something to get me by for now, save my pennies and get an Elcan when they go on sale.....The flip from 1-4x has me just stoked. Close and some Distance.

Nice—congratulations! You'll see this when your shows up, but the rail-integral sights are really rudimentary—there's no windage or elevation adjustment and only one aperture size. You want want to wait too long before getting an optic on there :) . If you're looking to not spend a bunch of cash I've had good luck with the two Holosun sights I've owned.

Big fan of the holosun sights. the integrated front sight is adjustable for windage and elevation but I agree the tavor was made for an optic. I like running my tavor light so personally feel an aimpoint type sight is ideal, just my opinion.

ALRIGHTY!!

Well, that happened a lot faster than I thought lol

So I got the gun, and when I got it, I also ordered from another supplier the Keymod XL handguard from MI, sheesh, just changed it completely.

Then after spending hours upon hours reading about optics, I finally went to check some out. Unfortunately the only store that really has a selection in MB is Wolverine, but I wasn't going to drive to Virden just to look. so I went to the Cabelas nearby and checked out some red dots, etc.

They had the Vortex Eagle Strike 1-6X and a bunch of other red dots. Selection wasn't huge but it's mainly for hunters...OH waiiiiiiiiit, whats that over in the corner....A trijicon Acog? OOOooooo

So, I won't lie, once that trijicon ACOG went up to my eye, it was literally love at first sight. I tried out the Eagle strike 1-6X and well the glass while good was no where near the quality of the ACOG, it almost appeared as if the 3.5X on the ACOG was better than the 6X on the eagle strike due to the better clarity which was excellent all the way to the outside of the lense on the ACOG.

Then of course, there was the issue of price, well, the ACOG's are going for 1800-1900 and well, if I was going to spend that much, I was going to consider paying more and getting the Elcan SpectreDR....

Well, after talking to the guy I recalled seeing the Trijicon on their website, but without the price listed....Online stock sold out, and limited availability Canada wide....The price on the scope in the glass case was 1795.00

After looking it up he said they had dropped the price down to 1439.00.

The manager passed by and said, yea, the trijicons are too expensive for the market Cabelas generally go for as they don't really market towards tactical and mainly hunters, and the trijicons hardly moved over time. So they're attempting to blow them out and won't be carrying Trijicon again.

So I had them check stock....Turns out the one I was holding was the last one listed in their stock across Canada. (a few stores may have had one in a glass case, but I wasn't going to drive across Canada to find out lol)

So after debating it, and realizing I was getting a scope that is normally priced between 1,800-1,900 for only 1439.00 brand new, I had to jump at it.

I now had increased my difference in cost to an Elcan by an additional 4-500 dollars. To not get it would be crazy. I didn't get the choice of reticle, so I have the Green Chevron.

I can't put this thing down now haha, I've been moving around and doing BAC with both eyes open, it's just awesome. If I feel the need for up close, I'll put a red dot on an offset mount.

Here are some pics, don't mind the pretty mattress haha

Good choice on the acog, that will work well for you. I have a similar one with red chevron as well as an Elcan, they are both good in their own way.

Yea, I figured the ACOG will take care of my needs for now, and later I'll grab an Elcan. By then I should have an AR I can swap the acog too if I want.

Granted the ACOG may just suit my needs perfectly. I really really want an Elcan lol

I had an elcan for 2 years on my tavor when I switched it to a 3.5x acog I never regretted my decision.
I have 3 acogs on my rifkes, all green, which I find so much faster to acquire than the red
2 3.5x horseshoe dots and 1 4x m150 chevron
I might very possibly buy a vcog for my 3 gun rig this spring

the height and eye relief of the 3.5x is so much better on a tavor than the specter d.

Awesome advice, thanks.

Yea, the deal was just too good to pass up, and I happen to really like the green chevron.

Have you ever mounted an offset red dot? I was considering it, but then after using the ACOG, I noticed at close range and doing BAC the green chevron is a green dot up close as I'm not focused on it. This seems to trump needing an offset red dot.

Im actually very good with the bac concept, i picked it up really quickly, so no need for an offset RMR

i put a light/laser on the offset rail.
do not put optics that need to hold zero on that offset rail though, it is not meant to hold zero.

Mike the Bike gives good advice. Listen to Mike.

My ammo testing with mine produced the same results as his 1.5 moa. I have popped a few groundhogs with mine at +/- 100 yrds. Have yet to take anything bigger, as often my deer season results in shots well beyond 200 yards. Maybe next season

Hard to go wrong with a Tavor, for it's intended purposes.

I upgraded a few things on mine.

Curved butt pad (as must as far as i am concerned)
Manticore Rail (puts optics at the proper height without a riser)
Lightning Bow Trigger.
Battlecomp (your tastes may vary).

Elcan Rides on top. Optics are like cars, everyone has their favourites. This one is mine.
