Newbie question...

Yeah... so I dumped 70$ out the window buying 2 Tasco Red Dot for me and the wife to go on our 10/22 plinkers. My wife has iron sights but my new .22 heavy barrel does not.

I put a bore laser in, align it across the basement, look inside and see the damn red dot in the scope moving around if I move my head setting myself up in shooting position. Is this normal? Should it now be aligned in the middle of the glass and stay there regardless of the angle I take looking into it?

I've always used iron sights until today(handguns and .22 rifles) and i'm wondering if I went too cheap to get something at least on there...

Or it's just me that's out to lunch and need to be more educamated about optics in general... that's a high possibility. :owned:

ya i had the same experience at target sports on there .44 magnum. and for that alone i will never touch a red dot again. at least until i see one that stays in the middle.
 
I think you both miss the point - he he

The position of the dot within the lense is irrelevant. As long as the dot is put on the target, you ARE aiming at it.

Try it before dumping these dots.

Sight in like any other scope then aim from any head position you want. That is why they have been ubber popular with speed shooters. They do not need to get their head is full alignment like a conventional scope.

as long as the dot is where they want the bullet to go....pull the trigger.

Well i used to use one on a paintball marker, and from what i'm understanding you're saying ...yep...that sounds like its working. You have to remember it's projecting an illusion that its also trying to create, so as long as you are behind it, put the dot on spot and shoot. BTW Tasco i'd use for paintball'n, i'd spend a lot more for real shooting!!!
 
What mysticplayer is correct.
After the red dot is zeroed in
position your eye so that the
dot is centered in the optic,
focus the dot on the target
with both open eyes open,
blast away. If dot is on target
head position will not change
P.O.I. I use an old Simmons
red dot on a S.K.S. and luv it.
A Tasco red dot should work
out well for your .22. Try it
before you dump it. I.M.H.O.

That's the thing...

I had my laser boresight in the barrel pointing down 25ft on the wall to get it somewhat aligned before going to the range this week-end and the reddot, depending on my head position, was anywhere from dead-on to 2 feet off the laser dot on the wall.

From what everyone is saying, regardless of my head position, the dot should "move" with my head position on the lense, currently it does.

I'll take a video tonight, maybe it'll be easier to explain.

What Skyllz says is correct.

The POI will move when the dot in the lense moves.:ar15:
 
THAT IS INCORRECT.
Imagine the rifle secured in a vise,
no matter how you move your head,
you will not change P.O.I. In essence
when you move your head you are
changing your focal point on the optic.
the dot only appears to move. TRY IT.
 
Hollograph or what

Hopefully this question is still on topic. I understand that an EoTech uses a hollographic immage, but what about an Aimpoint. Is that a hollographic sight or what? Jerry ?

I have tried it. the tasco ones are crap and the poi moves.

Higher quality reddots do not change the poi

Finally someone that understands what I wrote... thank you.

It's most likely not the case with higher end reddot but it was with those Tascos.

Tascos are almost sold anyway, some kid with a paintball gun wants them.

LeBaron still has their sale going on with 10% off(members) and notax on scopes till Oct 16th, any recommendation on something under 150$? A 2-7 or 3-9 would be nice.
