Hi,

I'm thinking about reloading.

I've searched this board and not found an answer to my two new questions.

What do home insurance policies say about powder and/or reloading?

Would I be a good citizen or an idiot if I were to visit my local fire hall and tell them about powder at home?

Thanks.

(BTW. If you think these questions are weird, wait until you read my hunting questions over at that board.)

What does your home insurance policy say about cooking on your stove? Reloading is very safe if you follow common sense. I doubt the local fire hall would care, unless you are storing large amounts. See the regs to be sure on how much you can store.

As a former firefighter, I didn't care. I'm WAY more interested in stuff like propane bottles that do explode and kill people.

As was pointed-out to NR Canada, (see the explosives regulation threads), it the past 10 years-or-so there have been 2 injuries attributed to reloading, and one of those was in a factory. during the same time period there were over 1,000 house fires and 40 deaths caused by candles.

Reloading is probably one of the safest hobbies you'll engage in.

My insurance company asked if I had an attached garage, wood burning fireplace or stove and stuff about the town fire department, but guns and reloadin' didn't come up! :D

Your insurance company and local fire department won't care. Mind you, if you tell your insurance company anything about anything it'll just give them an excuse to cancel your policy or increase your rate.
"...say about cooking on your stove?..." Or having a propane BBQ?
