Newbie Rifle Comparision.

So I really appreciate everyones help and all this info is great,

Looks like I have a few new rifles to research. Also looks like the Weatherby VGS2 has a decent average rating.

I can totally deal with a used rifle as well doesnt bother me too much, I was more so trying to figure out which ones I could hold and feel, Ill be moving to vancouver in 1 month and know of the two big name stores around (cabelas and Bass pro) and am hoping to find some smaller shops as well where I can go try the feel and fit. Maybe even find someone who owns a few to let me try them out at a range (I would cover a box of ammo and entry fee for the day) I know how important that fit and feel can be.

I will think about my budget a bit more its just a hard time, Just graduating from college and have some student loans to pay back.

Cheers Everyone :D

You'll do a lot better value wise buying used and have an excellent rifle, not a mediocre one. Bear in mind most hunting rifles are alllst brand new except for some scuffs, shot sparingly by most owners.

Lots of good advise . If your set on a new rifle , the vanguard is a good rig for the price . That being said , I'm a cheap old fart . My newest rifle is a Whitworth Express in 30/06 that's almost 40 years old . It shoots better than I can and it's a 98 mauser based action , totally reliable and it cost under 400 bones .You should definitely take your time selecting your first hunting rifle . Find something that fits , don't be afraid to ask questions and stay away from heavy recoiling rounds . A 270 , 30/06 or other round in that class will be easier to become proficient with , will handle any game we have , and are fun to shoot .

I just realized , my Marlin 1895 is about 20 years old , so it's newer ........... but I still got it cheap lol . Oh yeah , a savage bolt that Rembo rebarreled to 358W for me is newer .......... I think that's it , but you get my point . Good luck and keep us posted .
