Newbie... This seems like a GREAT deal... is it!

Great option yes, in my opinion I would go with 12g, cheaper and more plentiful ammo. And since its more plentiful you get more option of better performaing ammo!

That should be a decent first gun. It will allow you to hunt just about anything and participate in a number of different shooting activities. The mossbergs are also generally pretty decent entry level firearms

There is nothing wrong with the 500 combo .and a 20g is very nice to carry..if your main target is geese then a 12 g would be a better choice. But for a around shotgun I shoot a 20g and live it .I hunt everything from deer and turkey to bunny's and du KS .the 20g has never let me down .and as far as ammo 20g is plentiful and cheap even Walmart carry it.Dutch

I bought the same package from another retailer for my kids (and me) love shooting it, and love carrying it in the bush. Very light compared to my 12 ga. Try the hornady sabots. It is about 50% more to shoot, so look for ammo on sale.
For geese 3 in mag. Bbb or bb in 12 is the way to go.
