New to the precision rifle world, going to give it a shot this year as my job does not give me much time to hunt in the spring and fall anymore so I have some Newb questions on scope mounting.

Anyway building my first setup I am starting with a tikka T3x Tac A1 as my platform with the 0 MOA rail, I am wanting to mount a Vortex Optics Viper PST Gen II Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 5-25x 50mm scope with a 20MOA or 6 MIL mount,

My question is in regards to mounting as I personally feel changing the rail on this gun is just to complex and expensive and will just be as ex#####ive as a HQ mount. If I understand correctly I think 6 MiL pic rail mount from SPUR will work with 1.5 inch mounting height so the scope won't touch the rail on the fore-end but I was wondering if some of the PIC rail mounts from Vortex would work just as well such as https://www.vortexcanada.net/en/hunting/riflescopes/cantilever-ring-mounts/vt-cm-530-vortex-precision-extended-cantilever-30mm-mount or should I stick with a SPUR as its getting close in price or something else.

Thanks

I'm in same boat, and I went with the Badger Unimount, 34mm with a 20MOA. I considered changing the rail, but read mixed reviews on line? and I wasn't sure based on what I read, if the "new" rail would line up with the hand guard?. I like Badger stuff, and it was priced better than Spuhr or NEAR, YMMV.

To answer your question any "unimount" with the built in MOA/MIL will work, and I believe that you will need at least 1.5" to clear a 50-56mm objective "as a rule of thumb".

I am running the Spuhr SP-5601 which is 1.18" (and 6 mil) on my Leupold Mark 5 (35mm tube, 44mm objective) and I have no issues with clearance on the TAC A1. You will definitely be fine with the 1.5" mount on a 50mm objective.
