Hey guys. Newbie question here.

Is shooting with corrosive ammo really a big deal if you thoroughly clean your rifle immediately after shooting?

And P.S. before anyone PM's me... I know this is a often discussed topic. I'm having major issues with the search function, so my apologies in advance. :(

Yuu need to disolve the corrosive salts first when you clean your firearm. That's pretty much it, technically. So, pouring boiling water down the bore (and any other parts that might have been exposed, like the cylinder / piston of a SKS semi-auto for example) will do it. Some like to pour windex, works too. Boiling water is cheaper though. After that, you just proceed with the regular cleaning / oiling and you're ok. Just don't let that unclean rifle in the trunk of your car for six months.

not a big deal at all, just have to scrub the bore with Windex or pour boiling water down it if its a semi auto then you have to pull the gas piston and clean it the same way as well as the cylinder....not bad on the gun at all as long as you clean it each and every time you use corrosive in it....;)

I see many people claiming they can't use the Search feature. I think that the problem is people don't set the date range. If you don't change the "search posts from ** and newer" window to some wayback date, you will only search since your last visit, which, if you are like most of us, is only about 8 hours ago.

Really??! i didnt even kno that;)....Thanks....:)

Nope... Thanks but no cigar. I'm not claiming the search feature doesn't work without any knowledge on how to use it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm on here with a work computer... but anyhow thanks anyway

Corrosive ammo is more of a nuisance than anything else. Your rifle isn't going to instantly rust. Flushing with very hot water is all that's needed. Windex doesn't really do anything better.

If you were shooting on a wet day (we have a few of them out here in BC) you may want to clean it alot sooner than if you are shooting on a 35 degree day in July. My Tokarev got severe pitting in the last cm of barrel after being locked away on a rainy day and not cleaned for three days. Now I put plenty of dessicant in the case as well since sometime I can't get to cleaning my SKS or Tok for a day or two.

Ok thanks for the reminder to NOT buy an sks or tok from you.;)

I dont understand people's claims that they cant for some reason or not PROPERLY clean their guns right after the range. It is simple, you shoot, then you go home and clean BEFORE anything else. Even my 10 year old daughter knows the routine.

I'm thinking of gettin into shooting some surplus... I always clean after a range day anyhow so it doesn't seem unreasonable. Thank you kindly for all the info gentlemen. :)

It used to be that you could search from 24 months ago.
Now it's only 9.
Downsizing.

If zombie juices don't infect you, they will surely corrode your boomstick.
Unless you clean it.
