C1 Bayonet
There are two types of C1 bayonets out there and I have both in my collection. One has a wide blood grove or fuller measuring 8.8mm. The most common bayonete has a fuller measuring 5mm. The 5mm grove has more of a V shape to it and the 8.8 has a square shape like a No5, No7, and No9. (The measuremants were taken at the bottom of the fuller, not the top).
In Skennertons book British & Commonwealth Bayonets Canadian Section starting on page 295, he talks about the C1 bayonet on pages 309 & 310.
He states "This was adopted in 1955 and first issued in 1956. The Canadian bayonet was made by Canadian Arsenals Ltd., Small Arms Division, Mississauga (Long Branch) in Ontario, and their logo will be found on the ricasso along with the manufacture date. The shape of the point is slightly different to the British and Australian L1 bayonet"
If it doesn't have a C with an A in the middle, and a date of manufacture it's probably isn't a Canadian Bayonet.
I have a collection of about 400 bayonets and at least 35 different books on bayonets. I also contact Mr. Skennerton on ocassion when I am trying to identify unusual firearms and bayonets.
