Newest C1 Bayonet date?

hi b , this is not the answer you looking for but the newest of my 4 C1 bayo is 1959 , maybe someone has a newer one .

I have seen a few 66 dated ones, if I had to guess I would say 68 would be the latest ones.

C1 Bayonet

There are two types of C1 bayonets out there and I have both in my collection. One has a wide blood grove or fuller measuring 8.8mm. The most common bayonete has a fuller measuring 5mm. The 5mm grove has more of a V shape to it and the 8.8 has a square shape like a No5, No7, and No9. (The measuremants were taken at the bottom of the fuller, not the top).

In Skennertons book British & Commonwealth Bayonets Canadian Section starting on page 295, he talks about the C1 bayonet on pages 309 & 310.

He states "This was adopted in 1955 and first issued in 1956. The Canadian bayonet was made by Canadian Arsenals Ltd., Small Arms Division, Mississauga (Long Branch) in Ontario, and their logo will be found on the ricasso along with the manufacture date. The shape of the point is slightly different to the British and Australian L1 bayonet"

If it doesn't have a C with an A in the middle, and a date of manufacture it's probably isn't a Canadian Bayonet.

I have a collection of about 400 bayonets and at least 35 different books on bayonets. I also contact Mr. Skennerton on ocassion when I am trying to identify unusual firearms and bayonets.

I never saw any C1 bayonets with a date newer than 1966. I have about a dozen C1 bayonets and the earliest manufacture date is 1956 and latest is 1966.

Yup, those are the dates that I have seen as well, but wondering/hoping to determine if there was a C1 bayonet made as late as 1968..

Do you think those bayonets in that ad are Canadian? If so I might get one. They said they are 1966.

something fishy about that omahas.com bayo , you said there is no date on the blade but then how do they know its a 1966???

i wouldnt buy it , unless you call them again and find out if there is a canadian arsenal marking on it.

No markings on the blade they said. They are probably something like British L1A1 bayos and they just don't know the difference.

i think ya right, its not a canadian.... i recall recieving an email from a UK dealer who claims to have a canadian bayo that has a marking of a "C" in a square on the crossguard.

C1 Bayonet

I looked in my book British & Commonwealth Bayonets, on page 262 is a picture of a C inside a square on the pommel. It is on a British L1A4 FN bayonet. The Canadian bayonets have a C with an A in the middle.

If you want a C1 bayonet contact me, and I will check out my collection for a good one?
I have collected bayonets for the past 35 years and still have my first one, as well as my first gun, my dad gave me when I was 16.
