Heading to Caribou pond outfitters in late October.

4 of us in total, tags for moose, caribou and black bear.

Anyone ever been to Caribou Pond Newfoundland? Any hunting tips for the area, that time of year?

Flying into gander the night before, anyone know of good places to eat, buy supplies, etc?

Thanks guys hope you can help.

Rosie's Restaurant and Bakery on Roe Avenue, runs parallel to James Blvd which is the road from the airport. Turn right on Garrett Dr. then left on Roe Ave. Wing'n it has about 100 different kinds of wing flavours, it is on Roe Ave as well, across from Wally World. Hotel restaurants are pretty good as well.

The Outdoor Supply Store in Lewisporte for supplies. The controversial wolf that was shot here on the island is on display there.

Bring rain gear and good comfortable rubber boots.

PM me if you want anymore info.

I will second the rain gear and rubber boots. Also multi layers as you can encounter any kind of weather here that time of the year. Eateries are pretty limited.......Rosie's is great but not sure of their hours of operation. The Outdoor supply store is a great little hunting store but about a 45 minute drive from Gander. Gander has the usual CT and wally world. Contact your outfitter for any specific equipment requirements. Big bears on the island! Good luck!

Looks like I'll be hunting the same management area for my caribou this fall. October can be quite hot or cold, you just never know. I like a pair of waterproof hiking boots, since the ground can be quite rugged. Rubber boots keep you dry, but give no ankle support.

Lewisport has a good store for supplies, as long as you aren't shooting some oddball calibers.

Gore-tex and rubber boots with felt liners. Bring along an extra set of liners so one set can dry while you're wearing the others. Hiking boots aren't going to cut it when it comes to crossing miles of bogs or barrens covered in a foot of water saturated caribou moss. A pair of high Pac boots with lots of waterproofing like Dubbin or Mink Oil will also work. Extra liners advised. High quality binoculars are a must that work well in low light and have good contrast. Don't need super magnums, gun wise. .270, .308, .30-06 with quality bullet will reliably harvest any Newfoundland big game animal.
