I'd like to head east next fall on a moose hunt (I'm in Ottawa). A quick search of the web came up with 152 registered outfitters. Thought I'd try to narrow it down a bit by seeing if anyone here had some advice for me. I'm not bothered about shooting a big trophy, just looking for a quality hunt for a fair price with a decent chance of putting something in the freezer.

Do you know anyone in NFLD? I once decided to hunt moose there when I lived in NS. A friend of mine at work was from NFLD. Told me to contact his mother, start getting mail sent to me there, get an Outdoor Identification Card using that address, then a residential hunting license. Then I could go there for a week, and shoot a moose off of the back porch of his mother's house.
It was the best hunt I have ever had!! That woman fed me 3 meals a day!! I was stuffed for the whole 3 days I was actually there. Shot a large cow (almost 1100lbs) and shipped it home. His mom kept some meat and wouldn't take anything else. She was happy just looking after me and my buddy.
If you know anyone there, you might try the same route.

it not that easy anymore they changed the system to combat this stuff a few years back now you need a NL drivers license and other things.

any how as for the outfitters they all will give you ample opportunity for meat. if you dont get meat, you are extremely unlucky. been moose hunting here for 13 yrs only one year I never harvested an animal and that was my first yr. never had the money to really give it a good effort. as for the cost well it comes down to lodging and meals, every one of the outfitters should get you meat. My only advice is to stay roughly west of Gander, NL. to avoid excessive woodland traffic by the locals, as anyone with one can travel the areas you'll be hunting because basically the entire island is crown land. And Area 1(St. Anthony is heaviest populated(moose)) not far off shooting cattle on a 150 acre ranch, But the most travel required.

PM if you have any direct questions.
