Newish Turkey Hunter

I'm getting excited my plan is to combine Turkey, steelhead ,and bear hunting in one trip
Starting on Vancouver island steelhead work my way up to Trail BC for Turkey add sum fly fishing in and work my way to the Hazleton to fish the sum of the Skeena watersheds for more steelhead and bear then wen I get home it's the copper river it's going to be one of those Epic adventure
I have to look for work so might as well combine job hunting with Turkey/bear and steelhead make things a little more interesting

I think you are missing the point conor_90 is trying to make. Would you be comfortable sitting behind a fullsize coyote decoy while you made coyote sounds all morning in your whites or ghillie suit?

Often... and I sit "behind" deer decoys and make deer sounds too... and "behind" turkey decoys and make turkey sounds... and behind duck and goose decoys and make duck and goose sounds etc...

"Behind" is relative to where the "other guy" is... Every hunter has to be sure of his target and sure of the background... if someone is going to snipe (poach) they are likely to use a rifle regardless of what the governing regulations are.
 
^ Hoyt I did not even know people hunted deer with decoys. Reading up on it now; don't think it would work great here.

You are of course right about "snipers" who shoot at stuff without thinking about it.

For me; who only hunts on public land I don't know if I trust bubba enough to do that. We don't have turkeys here so it is all academic anyways.

that is hopefully my May24 this year! going for bear, perhaps turkey and LOTS of fishing! Just going into crownland bush in north central ontario

Hoyt nailed my point. I hunt private land. There are trespassers but I feel confident In using rimfire rifles as a safe alternative. I know there are guys out with 270 rifles hunting coyotes in land that over laps where I hunt turkeys. Most of the trespassers I've caught up with carried bows because they want to be quiet when sneaking onto private land
When hunting public land I'd rather someone take an aimed shot with a rimfire rather than blast away with #4 shot thru the undergrowth
I'm not saying stop hunting with scatter guns. I love my shotguns but using a rimfire to me adds a different challenge.
I have friends state side who use center fire rifles as well as rimfires and hunt public land. 22 hornet is a popular choice
