I just picked up a VZ-52.

I have no idea how to tell if its a 7.62x45 or 7.62x39.

The 7.62x39 round chambers....but I dont have a 7.62x45 to compare it to how it would chamber otherwise.

Anyone have suggestions??

Google both of them and you will be able to tell by looking at the magazine bases.

The 7.62x39, has a flat, upward slopeing base plate and the 7.62x45, has a straight across base plate. The pics on surplusrifle.com will show you what I'm saying, far better than I can tell you.

Very nice rifles by the way but they are much more tedious to break down for cleaning than an SKS.

The VZ52 is chambered in x45, the 52/57 in x39. The magazines are interchangeable so don't just go by that. IIRC both rounds will chamber in a 52 but the x45 won't fit in a 52/57 as the case is too long. Never actually tried to be honest. On the right side of the receiver should be a stamp like the one below if it's a 52/57. Other stamps should tell you what factory the rifle rolled out of and what year it was produced.

As always pictures help.

Thanks for the replies.

There is no 52/57 stamped anywhere.

And thereis no pin marks in the chamber

The mags look to be x45 when compared to the photos online.

It looks like a x45.

Any idea what its worth? Seing how hard x45 brass is to come by, I'm gonna flip it.

Thanks

Reloading I do. Forming brass from other calibers...sounds more like work.

Theres no emotional ties to this gun...I just want to flip it quick.

Thanks again

You can also purchase surplus 7.62x45 from Zefarm, but since you show little interest in the rifle now, I'd suggest you flip it --- for $50 it would be gone like that <snap>.
