My first AR build:

IMG_2092.jpg

The specs:
  • Aero Precision upper & lower receivers (note the very tiny set of hex keys for the 4-40 set screw - requires a 0.050" key which isn't included in the red and blue sets!)
  • Colt 6920 barrel & associated bits from IRG
  • AIM Surplus Nitrided BCG
  • Colt charging handle
  • Colt LPK
  • ALG ACT trigger group
  • AR-Stoner (MidwayUsa house brand) mil-spec receiver extension
  • DPMS end plate and castle nut
  • Colt H Buffer
  • JP Enterprises tuned/polished buffer spring
  • IMI M4 polymer handguards
  • Minimalist stock

Still on the lookout for a good value fixed rear iron sight.

G&R Tactical in the US - $60. I got a one time exemption from ITAR so I brought in a whole whack of stuff. I bought that back when the dollar was better, so that helps too.

I know that others are in different situations, but I had to laugh when I saw guys lining up to pay $110 for the Taiwanese no-name LPK from the guy who posts in bold.

Be born or naturalized a citizen of the United States. US citizens are allowed a one time exception to ITAR.

If you have a friend in the US and theyre willing to gift you something and fill out paperwork, they can use their one time exception as well.

Yeah, but the guy who posts in bold was selling complete M16 sets. Very nice too.

Unless you have the proper bcg and cutout milled in your receiver to accept the autosear and the third hole drilled, an M16 set is functionally equivalent to any other LPK. Can't speak to the quality of a kit he would not identify the manufacturer of.

A couple of notes:

Unless you need a full face hammer for a 9mm carbine?
BCG? - why would you run anything but an FA BCG?
WRT to the quality of those FA kits, it's as good as any I've seen, and I've built a few AR's - in fact my gunsmith runs one of mine.
