News:Richmond to use air pistols, lasers to battle snow geese

Earlier this week, a report went to Richmond’s parks committee outlining a number of steps the city could take to ramp up its efforts.

They include hiring more dog handlers to harass the geese, using air pistols to scare them off, shining military-grade bright lights at them at night and irritating them with hand-held lasers.

.....and that will cost us $100000 per year ......

Too many edible birds? I have no idea what to do. Po_ice with frikin' Laser beams, giving farmers money, I'm sure that will work. Yet I have a nagging feeling that I am missing an obvious solution, what could it be?

OMG professional hunters that sometimes shoot to kill, way different than the amateurs we have here that always shoot to kill. The greenpeace supporting, herb smoking mushroom munching crowd will go nuts if this happens, on the way to the food bank for "cull" goose.

Steves said his committee approved the plan but, fearing it may not be enough, asked staff to also look at how Vancouver airport controls its birds.
The airport’s approach, said Steves, includes professional hunters who sometimes shoot to kill.

Sometimes my ass, I've seen them shoot anything with wings more than a few times. Banger's only work so long, then the 12ga comes out.

I want that job!!!

If Steve's want's the close the park to anyone except hunters 1 or 2 days per week, problem solved!

The air pistol they are referring to does not shoot any projectiles, it is just a noisemaker.
