Well I have got the bug again, I want a 1911 in 45 acp.

What would you guys recommend in the 1000-1200 mark?

I was looking a a ss kimber for the 1000 mark. I am not sure what model it was though.

A nice 1970's MKIV Series 70 Colt in good condition would be on my list were I interested in a 1911.

Definitely

looking around and curious if 1000 rounds down the pipe is a lot for a 1911

More recommendations:

I could go for a Springfield Pro Operator myself.

I could MAYBE be talked in to an STI in 9mm...but would expect to then blow another $500+ ensuring that it would run properly.

If it were up to me...one of the older generation of Springfield Operators with the full length railed dustcover.

You can get a base model Dlask for $1250. I suspect that, it being a product of a custom shop, that a little more care goes into putting them together than the average mass-produced 1911. I would try and see if I could get one without the front slide serrations and with a GI guide rod.

+1 on an older Colt. If it's a Series 70, I would recommend replacing the collet barrel bushing with a regular one. Even the new Colts generally have the best quality small parts of the mid-range production 1911s.

If you don't mid paying a little extra, the Dan Wesson RZ-45 Heritage is nice.

Personally, I don't particularly care for Kimber 1911s. I don't like the looks of their slide serrations, they have a mixed reputation, and I don't like the style of firing pin block.

I just sold a beaut of a Colt that would have been perfect...

Another suggestion is have a look at what the manufacturers are rolling out for the anniversary next year. There are some really great 1911's coming out next year. My personal fav is the Kimber but is a little pricey at $3200usd.

I am currently building a commander length one with the parts I want. That may be a route to look at too. 1200 will get you quite a ways.

The spartan was my 1st pistol and I will attest to its awesomness. I went with a ss Sig Sauer commander style. Got an absolutely phenomenal deal from Reliable Gun in vancouver. The deal actually made me speechless. Highly recommend them to anyone in the lower mainland. Shane is an awesome guy and every shop locally could learn a thing or two from them.

There are so many good 1911s in that range... And they all have pretty much the same features.... I'm going to go against the grain here; if you want something different from everything else, and you already have a couple of nice 1911s to shoot, save up for a little longer and spend the 2 grand on the uber-awesome Dan Wesson Valor. It will be the last 1911 you will ever need to (or probably want to) buy!
