Next batch of bullets

When you finish off one group of bullets and purchase the exact same bullet but with a different lot number do you start over with your load build up?

I was thinking that I would start at min and load 1 bullet each at .2 grn increases until I have matched my target load.

Just for info I am currently working with the following
223 Rem
70gr match Bergers
Target loads
23.6grn H4895 and 24.4grn H4895
 
Probably not necessary to start over at the min load, but just to be on the safe side, in my 7mm Rem mag, I start a new batch of bullets 2 grains under my original load (loading 2 each going up in .5 grain increments) and watch closely for any pressure signs and chrony each load. Never seen a noticeable difference with the Bergers or Nosler Accubonds, they all seem to maintain the same velocity and POI.
I will also do the same "tests" with different lot #'s of powder. Again, probably not necessary, but when running close to max loads, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
 
I have loaded 165gr Speer Hot-Cor #2035 bullets in my 300win 1gr below max H1000 for years. My gun loves them and they are devastating on deer. Have never run into any trouble.
 
if we are talking about good bullet manufacures, like berger, sierra, etc and so on, then meh i wouldnnt bother starting over, most big companys have high enough standards that each lot should be damn well close to each other, especially if we are talking match grade components, ill work up a load for powder x and bullet y and stick with that regardless of lot number, if the powder changes lot, i drop off a bit and work my way up checking for pressure signs
 
Max load on Hogdon sight for H4895 is 25gr for 70gr bullet.
I would think you would be safe at 24.4gr
But a new lot of bullets is a whole new thing if you are loading just kissing the rifle lands like a lot of shooters seems to work good. You want to be measuring the ogive on your new Bullets, my friend just measured 1000 Berger bullets in 224 cal and put them in .0002" piles, quite a few piles and up to .0024 so by not sorting you could have a bullet seated .0024 into lands, this couild build very high presure and .0024 off lands can
make accuracy not so good. I have seen A maxs hornady with more .0024 in lenght

I have been loading these .030" away from the lands. I am planning on taking a couple of the new bullets and recheck the COL to ensure that it is the same. The way I plan on doing this is the same way I came up with the first group of loads. Take 2 or 3 bullets and put them into empty brass and then chamber them. Then I took the overall length and started turning the seating die in until I had this set at .030" away from the lands. Using the new bullets, I will take an overall measurement from chambering and then will put them throught my seating die and measure again to see if I get the same .030" as the last batch.

I am really not to worried about the first load of 23.6gr but think I will try a couple of intermediate loads up to 24.4gr. The one thing I am missing is a cronograph. By the way both of these loads are giving amazing results through my Savage Axis.

So why would the bullet length affect distance from lands?
Most seating dies pay no attention to the bullet tip, they cradle the bullet closer to the olgave to make the important measurement of "bullet to lands" more consistant. In other words they ignore the bullet tip!
And that's why on varmint or target loads I pay absolutly NO attention to the bullet length, the olgave length is much more important!
