Alright, I'm caving. As much as I harp on people for making these posts, I have to do it myself. I would like other peoples opinions.

I own enough 9mm handguns. Time for another semi-auto and I can't decide. .40 or .45

I love the sig p226 and if I went .40, that would be it. But I'm wondering if there's a big enough difference in kick between a 9mm and .40 to keep me interested.
OR
Should I make the jump to a .45, in which case it would be a 1911 government. (love the classic look of those guns).

Anyone have any .40's and .45's they'd like to let me try out in the upcoming weeks? My local range charges ridiculous prices for their "rental" guns.

.40 or .45?

I had a p226 in .40 and there is a lot of kick difference from a 9mm. I would say a .40 is more snappier than a .45. + sigs are amazing. I am in the process of selling all my handguns to start a sig only collection of pistols.

Hmm, appreciate the feedback. I shot a glock 22 a while ago but couldn't remember if there was a huge difference or not as I didn't shoot a 9mm at the same time and it was 5 months later I bought my first 9mm.

I much prefer the look of the p226 over the 1911. I just hope I find enough difference in kick between the two. Oh well, if I don't like it, I can always sell and get the other!
Or keep it and get the .45 anyway! :D

i regularly shoot 38Spl, 40, and sometimes 45 and 357. and once in a while if i'm forced to i'll shoot a 9. there's enough difference between 9 and 40 that after shooting 40 for a few weeks, a 9 feels quite tame.

if you want a Sig and want more than the difference between 9 and 40, go for the Sig caliber: 357 Sig. the diff between 9 and 357Sig will probably be quite significant.

Sig handles recoil like a champ, it's a very easy 9mm to shoot ... I have no regrets buying mine and I'm looking to purchase more Sigs already

I have a SIG collection that includes .22, .357 Sig, 7.65, 9mm, .40 and .45 calibres. They all have a different feel to them. The .357 Sig has a real sharp kick, the .40 has a nice "thump" to it, but the 45 is the king of felt recoil. In my opinion of course.

jesus...

I'd love a sig in .45 but can't afford it. the gun will be a Norinco (to clarify) and they unfortunately do not make a p226 clone in .357 or .45. Only the .40 (but damn it's gorgeous).
So it's a norinco .40 p226 clone or a norinco m1911a1 government clone in .45

Basically, I want another gun, but can't afford another gun. FML

try a wheel gun .. say a 357 mag .. I got a colt python .. it has a nice kick .. and looks great too :D and you don"t have to chase the brass if you reload

Just bought a 4" taurus revolver (S&W clone) in .22lr that I can't wait to get. It's going to give me my wheel gun fix. (can't wait for the damn CFO to approve the transfer..)

hmm, i haven't handled the Norc Sig, but given those two choices i'd say Norc 1911 cuz if something breaks, you can probably gets parts easier and cheaper. i'd consider a Norc Sig as a backup to a real Sig, or as an alternate caliber if you want some variety on the cheap - but still a back-seat to a real Sig that you own.

or if you really want something different AND you're on a tight budget, maybe the Norc Tokarev in 7.62x25 would fit the bill!!!

Can't shoot 7.62 at my range. I shoot at a local indoor range. I wont drive two hours to an outdoor range just to shoot one gun..

Between the 1911 and the p226, the p226 is closer to the glocks that I own. The 1911 is COMPLETELY different. and I know there's a big difference in bang between the 9mm and .45

I dunno, I'm changing my mind every ten minutes.

Tisas Zigana looks interesting, though less cheap than the Norc stuff......

I got the Norinco NP58 40 cal (sig226 clone) and a couple of Norkie 1911s in 45.

Amount of felt recoil are similar (seat of the pants observation only) but the NP58 is definitely snappier probably due to its lighter weight.

Very good point, there is a big weight difference. I guess I'll be picking up a Norinco NP-58 IF I can find a gen 1. I doubt I'll ever be able to find one. I have a couple issues with the gen 2's.

What about a sig 220 in .45 then?

As mentioned earlier, I can't afford a real sig, so I'm going with a Norc. (want to buy another handgun but can't afford another one). Norinco doesn't make a sig clone in .45

40-45 Cal ???

I have two SIG's that originally came with .40 barrels. One is an X-Five and the other a P-226 Equinox. Both are outstanding guns.

The beauty of the 40 cal is the ease in which you can move into SIG .357. All it takes is a barrel. I bought ported .357 barrels for both guns and switch to .357 once in a while. The ammo is more expensive and not as available as .40. The .357 will give you as much snap as you want and to me is sharper than the 45. It really tests my ability to get back on target when shooting quickly at multiple targets. That is despite the ports that do moderate the recoil and flip.

I shoot IPSC and buy Wolf reloads at a good price in .40. Compared to .45 it is a bargain.

I see enough 45 shooters to believe that if you plan to go the 1911 route be prepared for malfunctions unless you get a good gun and then get it tuned.
The SIG P series of 40 are super reliable out of the box and accurate too. If you shoot a lot, the ammo savings will add up to another gun in a few years.

PS If you enjoy recoil as I do and go back to 9mm it will have the same impact as American beer. I love to shoot but get totally bored with my .22 because without the recoil it just doesn't feel like a gun to me. And this is NOT a knock at 9mm. It just doesn't jolt me enough :)
