Just curious.. but I remember six months back or more, there was some discussion on the availability of milsurps drying up.

Now we see K98's, K31's, Mosins up the ying yang and other stuff popping up. I also remember all of us getting "hard -ons" :dancingbanana: over the Lee Enfields No 1MkIII's and No4 MK1*'s that showed up from the Italian Navy and the following disapointment over the $ and import crap.

What's the feeling out there about some new stuff coming on the market?

Any of you older service guys know where some nice "non-evil" bolt action milsurps are sitting or ended up that us collectors should keep our eye open for.

A winning lottery ticket would also be nice if you have one too...

I have a feeling that the former Soviet countries are still awash with WW2 era eastern front hardware. All nice and cosmoed since the end of the war waiting for the right "offer" to come in ... Probly the same thing going on in Africa and some parts of Asia. It's simple arythmetics, how many rifles produces pre-1946 and how many of them are accounted for. Also have a distinct feeling that we will see <unfathomable> numbers of Russian and other combloc SKS's show up on the market "once the time is right".

At a certain point, all the Russian capture G43's are going to be worthwhile marketwise for the importers to bring in. There should be plenty of them overthere.

Greece has a crapload of NIW K98 rifles captured from German supply bunkers during and after the war. Some guy a couple years back was digging on his property and found a bunker with 600 wrapped K98 rifles in it. They are now in military storage. They are also sitting on huge amounts of G3 rifles, Garands, Thompsons, and their WWII issue bolt action rifles as war reserves.

I often have dreams like this. :D

Do you find that the bed is sticky after these dreams? :p

I have been trying to convince my father to talk to somebody over there and get the K98's released for export... no go though. He pointed out that is the Greek government did release them they would be snapped up by European importers and sold in Germany where the crazy Germans will pay 2000+ Euros for German nazi era rifles, not to our little market where people would not want to pay more than 1000 dollars... but it sure would be nice to have a NIW K98... I guess one can always dream!

I'm not sure they would be legal to sell in Germany, which has very strict laws about ANY item with ANY type of nazi markings on them whatsoever.

Perhaps if the nazi markings were obliberated as some countries have done...

Yes without Communist Bloc there will be no old stuff,in East Europe {communist} in the army I was trained with AK 47,but ather time in the army the Gov.make a special chamber in every factory full of rifles from second WW,if you are not in the regular army as a male you must fight with Mausers,Mosin Nagan or SKS,at my working place my gun was a Soviet Sks and need only 20 minutes to be fully armed and ready for action
After the fall of Communism the former socialist bloc have been start to sold this guns to American dealers almoust for nothing because of need of cash

Yeah, Mother Russia is still sitting on better than HALF of the entire Ross Rifle production:
the ones they got in WWI
the ones they were given in WWII
the ones they "acquired" when they "protected" Latvia in 1940

Remember, Rosses delivered to both Great Britain and to the USA were sent to Russia in large quantity. When you add up the figures, they got better than half of all the rifles built, and this would include a whack of 1905s and a LOT of 1910s.

Just wish they'd find the things and release 'em..........

No doubt they would in a heartbeat for the right price ....

That's called "hoping for a miracle" ... Completely different.

A number of European countries (Sweden for example), have severe restictions on the number of firearms an individual may own, hence the large number of exports from Sweden (you buy a new one, you have to sell one). I imagine that is also the case in several other countries (Germany?), so the notion of them never leaving Europe might not be the case.
