I seem to have developed quite an affinity for revolvers lately. So far the collection is very small ...from S&W a 586 no dash and a K-38 target masterpiece as well as a just acquired 4.5" Alfa Proj 9mm. I put 3 guns on the EE a couple of weeks ago and have sold two so I'm starting to think about buying another wheelgun. By nature I tend to like older things but new is certainly on the table. Right now the options under under consideration are...

New

1. A Smith and Wesson 686 Plus Pro Series for $1165 GST in.... from a forum sponsor

2. A Smith and Wesson Classic Series Model 27 for $1059 (USD so about 1350-ish CAD) + GST....also from a forum sponsor

3. A Smith 627 PC for 1485 GST in..... also from a forum sponsor....probably getting a little rich.

Used

1. Wait for a nice early Model 27 to come along on the EE Cost unknown but I'm guessing $1,000-1200+ depending on condition and whether or not it has tools/presentation case etc. Rusty Wood just sold a fairly decent looking one with some wear very quickly that was listed at $950

Edit....the Trooper option is gone so scratch that one

2. A Colt Trooper III that I've seen for $865. It's not perfect in terms of finish but would be a considerably cheaper option than the others....... The poor man's Python??

3. Dan Wesson 15-2 at $500-600....quite a bit cheaper... Interesting gun...I don't have one???

Thoughts?...Opinions?....other suggestions of guns I've missed?

I have a had afew S&Ws and my TRR8 has the slickest DA trigger i ever felt in a revolver. So my vote is for the 627 PC!

I have the 627, it doesnt get better than that, the trigger is world class... Shooting made easier... JP.

For vintage, try looking into a Dan Wesson Monson-made .357 or .44. Made to last, smooth trigger, and interchangeable barrels for changing up the feel and fun to collect. I now own two 15-2 .357s and 5 barrels. Prices are rapidly climbing across the line and now CZ is offering parts and gunsmithing once again.

Edit - I see you added Dan Wesson on this forum, unlike the other. Good choice. :)

I have a 686 plus 6 inch stainless 357 mag that has shot maybe 200 rounds total..... shoot really well, would consider selling it, I don't shoot it and it's just money in my safe.
I am going to sell a few guns this year, I have many that I don't shoot.

PM me if interrested.

What!? No love for the venerable .44 Rem Mag!? Everyone should have a model 29 {imho} :) I don't own but have always been intrigued by the Dan Wesson revolvers. Any truth to them being more fragile than Smith's and Ruger's? (internals, not frame's or cylinders)

Your'e right about that the Model 29, it is the iconic 44 mag of history, mine is one jewel of my herd... JP.

I wrote to S&W about producing a Canadian legal 625. They actually replied....just to say that the tier 1 support person would pass it along lol

You've got a triumph rocket JP? Man, you don't do anything half way ;)

As for smiths in general.... One of each sounds about right, so just pick the next one. I like my 629, but I think I'd trade it for either a new classic 29 or a 29-2. I like the blued look and the square butt is easier to find grips that I like for.

R8 is high on my list. a few members in my club have it. such a beauty. just missed a deal online. someone was selling it used with 13 tk custom moon clips for less than the gun price. darn....

A 5" model 27 is a really nice gun...wish I kept it (you probably don't want to know I sold it for $700 a couple of years ago...).
Can't get more iconic than the 29...
625 is the gun if your going to compete in IPSC (a moon clipped 686 with a 402" barrel is nice too).
A 5" 460 really speaks to me; what a cannon.

627-8 is nicer than the new model 27 classic. I have both. The price you have with GST in on the 627 is very good. I got impatient looking last year for a 627 PC and purchased one on gunbroker and sent it to Canada via IRUNGUNS for around $1650. I overpaid but got what I wanted when I wanted it. They are difficult to find at times, and at other times plentiful, but you have the right price. New stock coming in will cost more for sure. I wish that I had waited for a vintage model 27 to come up on the EE. I know for certain they are potentially nicer than the new classic issued model 27. They are very rare, perhaps more difficult to find new than a 627. You should buy both of these models but get that 627 while the price is right. In Calgary one is priced at $1799 right now! Geesh!

K-22, 625, or a Dan wesson, but make sure you get a few barrels with it, cause that's half the fun. You won't go wrong with any of them.

If you can find a 455 webly, that's a whole different world of coolnes as well. You'll enjoy any of them. Good hunting!
