Desert Tactical Arms VS PGW TIMBERWOLF

Already have S&B 5-25x56 optic for her, just really in a bind of what i want to get, all be getting her later in the new year, more than 70% saved for this project to complete my goals for firearms then I'm there, finished finally.

So any thoughts to help finalize my decision would be helpful, I'm really torn on this.

Well, I will tell you this.... I have met the guys that build the Timberwolf, and I have been to their shop. I KNOW the quality of the components that goes into them. The Timberwolf uses the best barrels in the world, and their action design is unbelievable. You're also reading the words of a guy that didn't always feel that way. I figured they were just another over-priced tacticool gun..... I have had to swallow a great deal of Frank's Red Hot to get the taste of crow out of my mouth.

On the basis of thier gun alone, I would go PGWDTI hands down, end of story.

Add to that, Steve and Ross are incredible supporters of sport shooting in Canada. I don't think you would ever be able to pick up the phone and speak with the guy that designed and physically built the DTA... I amy be wrong.

I must admit that as a long range precision shooter, I tend to care less about esthetics and more about results, but I think the Timberwolf has both.

Timberwolf is super accurate if dta is as accurate then it would be my choice for two reasons compact and mag design...protecting bullet tips and longer for full 300wm loads is awesome.

Obtundeds comments should not be overlooked

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Timberwolf but I love the options of the DTA, especially the conversion kit from 338 to 308 is ideal to my situation, but supporting the local Canadian manufacture is more important to me in many regards.

I was originally going to get the DSR-1 but due to other things that is just out of my price range right now for the next 2 years..

I imagine the TW has better accuracy out at the end of the 338 capabilities but does that make it the rifle to buy.

The DTA is very compact and allows me to carry another rifle if i so choose a lot easier anyways!

Any reviews on either would be helpful?

I would love to see and shoot a DTA. No clue what it is like in the 'flesh' so will not say anything more. I like what the bullpup can offer but no idea what it is like to handle in the real world?

I have seen and shot a PGW in 338LM. I aimed, I hit, I cycled, it fed, I aimed, I hit, repeat as necessary....that's it. No drama, no muss, no fuss, no excuses.

For a big dollar rig, you will not be dissapointed.

As for a review, I would lean towards the Cdn sniper rifle trials.

Pretty sure it has been adopted by other countries too.

That is a pretty good endorsement, me thinks...

You wont be disapointed with the Timberwolf. I was amazed at the quality and workmanship that go in to them. Like Mystic said point, aim, shoot, HIT. I love mine. Ross is ecelent to deal with always willing to help.

In PGW's office, they have the target that won them the Canadian Military contract. I believe the requirement was for a rifle that could hit a figure 12 target 8 times out of ten at 1000 yards... Friggen thing looked like one of CyaN1de's 300M load development targets.

9 times outta 10, @ 1200m... According to their website... They acheived 95%...

Accuracy:

Sub 0.75 MOA with proper ammunition.
The Canadian Forces accuracy standard was evaluated by hit probability with a requirement of hitting a chest sized target at 1200m 90% of the time.
PGWDTI averaged over 95% on this standard and every weapon delivered under this contract was evaluated for accuracy and witnessed by DND officials.

But....

DTA SRS barrel conversion (60 seconds)

DTA SRS .338LM @ 1250yrds

It does have it's benefits, and is capable...

Great vid Ezkmo... Really shows how similar yet different they are...

".338 Lapua... More kinetic energy @ 1300yrds than a .44 magnum @ the muzzle..."

;) that's sig-worthy...

Noticed in the video that the left hand shooter using the right hand bolt action is rising off the shooting position the same way the right hand shooter is for the bullpup. I think a left hand bolt would work better for a right hand shooter on that system.

Was watching one of the shooters at a comp doing the same thing to cycle the action. Is it avalible in left and right hand versions? Would be nice to stay on the scope when working the bolt. Something to consider if ordering one.

Yeah that is definitely a dilemma i was thinking about, because i can shoot both left & right equally well, so trained on both. I'm now leaning towards the folding stock on the TW.

I have also decided to buy both rifles, but TW comes first:D

Both:eek: I am still dreaming of the PGW Urban Tactical with the folding chassis. I have been lucky enough to have tried several of the PGW's rifles and nothing else has come close. The only extra I want is a Jewell trigger. Going to take me a while to dream bigger than that:cool:

Hope you post lots of pics and a proper RR when you do go shopping!

Well i think i will be reasonable and make the TW a 2011 project and get the DTA in 2012, originally i was going to get the DSR-1 but decided to put my funds to savings instead, there are just too many toys out there but the TW is priority now!

Keeping in mind these accuracy results at 95.7% average over 172 rifle systems and about 4000 rounds fired of factory ammunition...

Also of interest is when 6 rifles were returned for work and had to be re-certified for accuracy every one did better in the accuracy test after they had several hundred rounds through them....
