Next step in getting my RPAL?

Ok, so a few months ago I went out and did the Restricted Firearms test, I challenged it and passed easily.
I've been very busy since then, and didn't have time to do the other half of the test (longrifles and such). Now I know I have to do the PAL half of the test, I'm told it's the same one hunters do to legally own and hunt with rifles.

I was living in Fredericton at the time, but now I've moved to St John. I have no idea what the name of the place is that handles the standard PAL portion of the test, or where it's located here in SJ.

Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction? Thanks. :)

I thought the same thing, I mean it has been 6 or 7 years since I did it. I guess things change, or maybe the tester thought the OP already had a PAL.
 
No, a PAL isn't required before you get an RPAL. You can do both testing portions first, then get the papers saying you passed, and send them both in at the same time to make your first license an RPAL instead of getting a PAL first.

Can someone tell me the name of the department that handles PALs so I can look them up here?
 
When I took my course, we were told that we needed to pass both PAL exams (exam and practical) before being allowed to do the RPAL exams/practical. Ah well.

You're best bet is to use the contact info from the governments page: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/safe_sur/cont-eng.htm - they will be able to tell you the closest instructor or training center

I was under the impression that this is canada wide, maybe not? but here in BC, you have to complete the PAL test and practical before you could even do the RPAL.
 
In accordance with the Firearms Act, a new firearms safety course focusing on restricted firearms (primarily handguns) was developed and implemented on February 1, 1999. The legislation stipulates that individuals wishing to acquire restricted and/or prohibited firearms must take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) and pass the tests OR challenge and pass the CFSC and the CRFSC tests without taking either course.
 
Do you currently have a PAL? I'm guessing not, but I have no idea how you managed to get a provider to allow you to challenge the Restricted test without being in possession of a valid PAL or be in class and have passed the PAL portion first. This is the first time I've heard of someone in possession of Restricted test results without having the Non-Restricted portion too (or already having their full PAL).

Do you have the two copies from your tester to show you passed the Restricted test? If yes, you simply need to apply to a local provider to challenge the PAL test. After that (and with both test results in hand) you can apply for your RPAL.

Also, let's make sure anyone reading this in the future is clear; There's only ONE firearms license in this country. It's a PAL. What we commonly refer to as an RPAL is a PAL with Restricted privileges attached.
