Next trick is to roll over.

Hello all,
Awhile back I posted pics of a doe and her fawns that started showing up and eating out of our hands. Mom was tame as hell, the babies not so much. Well mom and baby number two disappered but baby number one is back. She has a scar along her back from something (barbwire fence, wolf, who knows) so we know its her. This season we got her to wait with an apple on her head and wait for the signal to drop it and munch it down. Next trick will be to sit or roll over. If she can bring in the paper I will start buying the premium feed.

I am personally apposed to hand feeding wildlife. While I have no issue with feed being put out for game, I disagree with a prey animal being conditioned to loose it's natural fear of a predator, but that's just me.

This is a suburban, provincial park deer. She has no human hunters after her. We get the odd wolf but the neighbourhood dogs make them skittish and very transient. Her biggest threat is vehicular traffic and her biggest worry is whose house do I go to next for my nighly handouts. Her mom was even a little chubby...picture that.

Raccoons are cute too, until they knock over the garbage cans. If I hit this deer with my car, can I sue you for damages?

I would not recommend habituating any wild animal to humans. There are stories of bucks in game enclosures attacking their owners (and feeders) during the rut. In a buck's minds, if it moves fight it. If it smells right hump it.

my mom had a pet deer when she was young, said it was best friends with their dog too, she had it since it was like 2 days old or so, mother abandoned it they think

X2. But don't try and tell that to a group of suburbanites who think it is just SO cute to feed Bambi and post pictures on the net.
