Next year's moose gun?

Thinking about next year's purchase, looking to replace my Husky 30-06 with a quality moa bolt action rifle with wood or laminate stock. I have my eye on Sako's lineup, already own a Thompson center Icon in .243 that I love but don't need twins. What other quality firearm models should I be looking at? Thinking that a good quality 3-9 will be sitting atop it... Thanks all!
 
Ruger Hawkeye Laminate or Tikka T3 laminate or Win Mod 70 or....

Lotsa choices if you want a good-quality bolt gun. Any other specifics as to what you're looking for? PF or CRF, stainless vs. blued, light-weight vs. sporter weight, etc...

BTW, what model is your Husky, and are you looking to sell it?
 
you ever think of getting a semi custom build? i had "gunteck" in brentwood build me a Remington700 with a SPS he blue printedthe action and put a SS custom barrel. put all that in a bell and carlson stock. makes it fell more like your person rifle then a cookie cuter gun

Pretty hard to beat a Husqvarna with any brand out there. It is a "quality" rifle already and a 30/06 is hard to beat as a moose rifle.

If you get the rifle tuned up (bedded, trigger, crown) add a good scope and it will do anything you want it to do for moose hunting..

Thank for the info guys... Some of the things I find favorable in a rifle are: Select or better wood stock (or laminate), heavy, full length match type barrels. I agree that my current shooter (the Husky), is a decent rifle, but the 'mountain' style is not my thing as stated above I like the heavier, longer barrels. I feel that they balance the best for me and that they are generally more accurate.
 
A nice wood Sako is going to be a good shooter. As would a nice wood Tikka. Rem has some nice wood, but accuracy can be a bit more hit and miss. Savage doesn't make anything pretty lol (I love em for the accuracy & own several). Check out SakoAlberta for pretty Rugers, Sakos, Coopers, etc etc.

As you can tell I'm partial to the Sakos. I have held the Savages and they feel good as well, did also like the new Winchester 70 but their barrels are lighter.. maybe a custom is worth looking at as one of the posters has noted.
 
Ruger Hawkeye Laminate in whatever cartridge suits your fancy with Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. Can't go wrong with a Sako 85 Hunter, or a nice CZ, either.

So.......about that Husky..... :D

If you've got the money for a custom build, you will NOT regret it. Just specify your ideal barrel profile, length, weight, etc when you order the barrel. Speak with a good gunsmith and get his advice.

Buy a Cooper. Sounds like it would be perfect for you.

They are heavy, pretty, accurate, and expensive.

Yep, that Husky's going on the block I'm thinking. My pal that I got the Husky from has his own extensive collection and one of them is a 7mm Ruger that he really likes, of course since then he's also bought a Kimber, Weatherby, Savage.. I think I stilll like his Sako the best though =]
 
Take that Husky and put a Boyds laminated stock on her, have "Gunteck" put a new barrel on it (338-08 (338 Federal) 338-06). IMHO you will have a better rifle then any Sako or Tikka, and probably have a few more bucks to add to your scope.
 
Ok, so I have some ideas of makers, now any feedback on calibers? I'm using a 30-06 now, and don't necessarily want a canon... Anybody have experience with 300 Weatherby mag? How about 7mm mag?

If you don't want a cannon why would you want a .300 WBY?

.308/.30-06 doesnt seem to fail.
