NFLD Moose pics

Wow! Nice moose, for sure. Looks like your group had a great trip. Too bad I am working nights. I could have drove up to see you folks as you tripped through NB.

Are all the shot at longer ranges? 250 and 290yds is pretty far for moose hunting. Most are shot closer.

That looks like a lot of work.:D

How far did you pack them out?

I always thought a 988 loader would make an excellent
moose hunting vehicle.;)

Most were taken out by quad, but only after a considerable amount of time cutting trails. Hindsight, it would have been easier to de-bone and pack it out and make a few trips.

A lot of the moose there are taken at closer ranges, but its all in the circumstances. My bull was following a large cow, and they were making their way over the ridge to where I was, but I had better shooting while they were up high, so I decided to shoot before they descended. The bottom of the valley was quite thick, and they would have disappeared I think.

The big one was among a group of 5 or 6 moose, and the hunter had been spotted by a cow with a calf, so to avoid being busted and losing that opportunity, he took the shot from 250yds. That bull took 4 shots to the boiler from a .300WM and stood there like he was not even hit, then tipped over.

Might have been leaning against one of those snags? (I've known it to happen before, and the shooter (not me, thankfully) kept blasting away and really did a sorry job on the meat). Either way, this guy was likely dead on his feet and just didn't know it yet. :)

Hi, congrats on the moose, nice looking animals. That area looks like it was up the northern #####ula, up around the tabletops, am I right? That is one of the windiest places on the island if I'm correct. Cheers.

Nope, not that far up. If you hit Cornerbrook, you've gone too far...:D

Sounds familiar. I was with my buddy a couple years ago and he shot a broadside cow moose at about 50 yards with a 30-06 and some 180gr bullets.

First shot, moose didnt even move. Looked like he missed all together so I told him to keep plugging away.

Second shot, same thing. Moose just looked at us like "seriously?..you missed again?"

Third shot, didnt even phase the moose. Looked like he got tired of being shot at and slowly walked away.

We found him about 20 feet from where he was standing. Once we opened him up, we found a 2'' group of all 3 shots. Right in the boiler room.

The next years moose, with the same guy, same 30-06 and same bullets. One shot and it dropped like a brick.

Weird.
