Hi guys,
I want to buy a Nightforce scope 8-32x56 NXS. After trying a friends 5-22x56
with NP-R1 reticle, I couldn't see the reticle at 200 yards. The illumination was on it's lowest setting (no screw driver to change it). He had no problem seeing it but I did.
I want to use the scope for hunting and paper punching at 1000 yards. I want a clean reticle. I was thinking of CH-1 or NP-1.

the reticle is fine in the NP-R1, need to spend time with it adjusting to your eyesight, as per instruction booklet, should be fine once you've completed the process.

Is it that you could not see the illumination or you could not see the reticle ? What magnification were you set to (I assume 22x) ? How is your vision in general ? Do you have problems with other scopes/reticles ?

We started shooting around 9:00am at 640yards. I didn't notice the problem then. There was lots of mirage. Then 1 hour before it got dark we decided to shoot at 200 yards. Thats when I could not see the center of the reticle. I never had a problem like this before with my scopes.

If used in daylight under normal conditions the illumination should be off.

agreed, i have the 5.5-22x50 with NP-R1. If you use the illumination, i find it harder to see the reticule during the day as it will reduce the relative contrast of the reticule.

Ive never found i needed it during the day. Only time i used it during the day was in a snowstorm when it was very grey out.

what do you guys think of the ch-1 and np-1 reticle? would the np-1 be ok for benchrest shooting?
