Nice Alberta Whitetail

Well, I finally connected on a nice buck. This is definitely my biggest buck and I'm pretty happy. We had seen this buck a few times this year, but never got the drop on him. The first time during the season, it was about 10 minutes before legal shooting time. The next time my hunting buddy saw it about 100 yrds off the road in a field he could shoot in but he knew I had my eye on it (What a great guy!).

Then tonight we saw him again with 4-5 does, again in the same field. I shot him at about 200 yrds with the 7mmRM. He took about 5 steps and fell over.

Now to decide if I have him mounted or not. I did a rough measure on him. He's pretty heavy - 5 inch bases and fairly symmetrical. Gross 159, Net 156.

Yep on both! Don't really have much room for a mount. I still have a draw for mulie buck down south around Pincher Creek. Made a deal with the wife that any deer gets mounted if it makes the book!

Nice buck. Get that one mounted. I wish I had one like that. Its not too often you get a 160's white-tail. If that is the best you have got, get him done for sure. That is a trophy. Amazing G-3's and it looks like around that 20-inch mark for spread. Where abouts in Alberta did you get him?

Thanks guys. I'm going to do a skull mount on this one. I'll also have it scored officially so that I know for sure. Any CGNers around Calgary that can do an official score?

The spread was 18" and the G3s were 9" and 10" (that was the biggest deduction). Got him north of Airdrie.
