I bought a Model 12 at the Regina show this weekend. It had an odd muzzle break (according to my limited experience). I looked at it more carefully and found it to be a Weaver FC.

The shotgun itself is rather a nice one, 1932 vintage, with serial number in the 655### range, with a matching # on the barrel. Nicely configured wood with a good Redhead recoil pad installed. I'll get Deaner to clean the old girl up a bit and I'll take it out to give it a whirl. I an curious to see what the muzzle brake will do. I have another Model 12, 1954, without a brake.

It is actually a Weaver Choke system that is vented to reduce recoil. The unit was made of aluminum as were the tubes. Winchester did offer factory installation of the Weaver choke system on Models 12. The compensator will likely just make the gun louder but it is cool.

^^Thank you for the info. I realize the shotgun will be louder. I have an old Hakim 8x57 that you can screw the brake out with your fingers. Big difference!

Old Model 12's are a hard sell these days. The 1954 I have isn't as good shape as this one. I likely will just play with it for a while then send it on. I mostly shoot semi auto now, as I don't care for the recoil on a pump or double.

I also have a 12 ga. 1914 Model 12. :)
